had a Detroit for 5 years and love it, but would like a Ox for the winter wheeling.

I am running an OX in the front 30 of my TJ. No problems yet except for the missing money in my bank account. It is sometimes a little work to get it engaged and disengaged.

I've been pounding the hell out of my Dana 44 front OX, and I love it, I've had two Detroits in the rear of other trucks and loved them too. In a heavy vehicle, I'd go Detroit in the rear, in my light Jeep I run a spool rear. I'm in Michigan and winter don't get much worse than ours, I like the spool more than the Detroit for winter street driving, always predictable, but an OX would be cool too. Front axle, OX all the way! Oh yeah, sometime hard to shift, but you get used to it, sometime have I have to let-off or get on it and jerk the wheel a little, but mines prolly not adjusted super accurate, I alway meant to, but I've been having too much fun with it. Had an ARB in one of my old trucks, too much mumbo jumbo and weenie internal moving parts. The ARB grenaded in less than a year in a fullsize with 33's, took the whole housing with it.

My Ox lockers (front and rear) have run me through Judgement Day, Predator, Axle Alley, Upper/Lower Woodpecker, and the Rubicon among others. Other than changing the diff fluid, I haven't touched the front (which a friend and I installed) but I have had to readjust the rear (which DriveTrain Direct installed) several times. The hardest part about installing them is running the cable, the locker install itself is the same as a detroit, ect.
All in all I'm happy with them, they have takin' me where I want to go.
A 60 OX has gotta be seriously beefy, it would probably take a lot to break one.

Are the 60 Oxes available now? Last I heard they were still doing R&D. How much are they, over a grand?

works well if you engage it before you put any stress on the drivetrain(i.e. flex)

Here is another question along the same lines. How long do they take to ship out??? I ordered my 44 OX last week and they said it might be up to a month and a half before it ships out because they are on backorder. That seems to be a constant state with them. I think they need to boost production in the worst way. Kinda bothers me because I wonder what happens if I do break one. Will I have to wait 2 months before I can have my rig back on the trail with the locker working again?

I am dead set on ARB's. A kid at school has them on his FJ40 in Dana 60's and 38's and has run everything in SD and just did Moab, Upper and Lower Helldrado with no problems ever. From the time he put them in 4-5 years ago till now. I am sold on ARB's. JMO though.

Thank you for your input. We certainly don't believe the stock axle strength
is sufficient, but many customers have asked for something to run with their
Warn floater kits they already own. Also, the Super 35 with big spline has
proven to be very reliable. We'll try to accommodate as many people as
possible - the Dana 60 will be available in limited quantities by year-end.
Thank you,

I sent them an email after reading they were building dana 35 lockers before attempting 60s. this reply was Nov 7 2001
I said to stop wasting time with 35s as they are junk, guess he told me. reliable and dana 35 in the same mouthful, eeewwww
least he replied i guess

Have several folks in my club running the Ox's lockers. So far everybody has been happy. Most do say they are some times a little cranky getting them locked once your stuck and cant roll a little. Most say if they think they will need it they lock it before they get into where they think they need the extra traction.
Have several folks that own ARB's and so far every one of them has had multiple problems including them granading and in two cases when they came apart it damaged housings. Pretty well all the same problem when they come apart. bolts on the carrier come out, get sheared and run through the ring and pinion. We get into a lot of under brush and stuff snagging lines. That's been a complaint. Compressor and controll valve problems common. Several people have done away with the ARB compressors and gone to using either onboard air or a CO tanks. Couple have gone to manual valves and dumped the solonoid valves.
My thought....Rear ...DETROIT. Front I would like a OX. Don't get much ise and snow here so the Detroit has not been an issue. Currently I run a Lock right front.

Oxen front and rear in Waggy 44s under my YJ.

No problems. Shift them while turning a corner (or just keep pressure on the switch while wiggling the steering wheel whilst going down the trail) and they snick right in every time.

Other than the price, no complaints.

I paid around $1,100 for the locker and cable. When you buy the locker now you get the shifter. The cable is sold separately. I bought it from West Coast Diffirential.

Maybe they are :rainbow: and can't adjust it properly.

Is it a 4 pin diff like an ARB?

If you can't wait McNamera (australian company) makes a cable locker for 60s (carrier is the same as a rover salisbury so they offer them in 30 and 35 spline for a dana 60)

Yes. 4-spider carrier in the D44 units. I think the D30 units just have the single crosspin.

I was at the top of the list when the 44 units came out early last spring and I paid $749 each, cables included.

That guy must've been holding his ankles at the checkout counter or something...

I agree, 1100 bucks is astronomical. Why would you even buy one if you had to pay that much, they aren't that great....

Maybe that is an installed price. Seems about right then. Most places get about $300 to set up gears around here.

Wow, and I thought we got raped around here! The going rate in these parts is 200 bucks. That is drop your truck off pick it up in a few days. Cheaper if you just bring in the housing.

I Double checked the price. $699 for the OX and $75 for the cable. I think I paid $150 for the install of the locker alone. The cable was easy enough to put in.

Is the $200 for just labor or does that include the set up kit with Bearings. The set up kit is about $100. So it the set up kit is extra then $300 is about right.

Ah, you got me there. I thought we were talkin labor. You are right. I got my install kit already and the axle is down to bare housing, just waiting for the OX to come in so I can throw it and the housing in the back of the truck and carry it on down the the shop. I should get a nice discount seeing as they don't need to pull anything apart, simply install the gears.
