Can anyone tell me what year or years Dodge put the 32 spline axle shafts in the rear Dana 60's for the 2500's. I have to have the 32 spline and am having trouble finding it. And if you know what year's can you tell me how to idenify it on the pumpkin or tubes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris

It is probably a dana 70u. dodge ran those is the 90's in the rear. I replace them with yukon, cut to length 35 spline without changing the housing at all

As long as you change the carrier too or at least the spider gears. Just call around to some JY's for one, they will even know what years to look for.

Thanks,
I have went to the junk yards lookin' but cheapest I can find is $2000 and they won't let me pop the rear cover to count the spines on the shafts.
I keep searching "Google" and have wrote Dana an e-mail but cant get much info. on the 32 spline just the 35.

It only takes 8 bolts to pull the axle out, why do you need to take the rear cover off if all you want is the axle? Your truck doesn't have full floating axles?

The first gen diesels (89-93) used 32 spline D70's in the 250's. AFAIK all the 350 badged trucks used 35 spline axles. 2 1/2" brake shoes on the 250 and and 3" shoes on the 350. Other than brake shoes, and axle size/spline count they're the same rear.

I think the very-first first gens (1989) did use a D60 rear, but you don't see many pre '90 Cummins trucks around. If you do spot one, chances are the rear's been replaced at least once so there's no telling what it came with originally.

I was trying to sell a 32 spline Full Floating D70 with a bad pinion bearing a while back. Nobody wanted it, I wound up giving it away.

Thanks BumpyDodge,
If what you are saying is true then man your a lifesaver. All you dodge guys are going to hate me for this one but here it goes. I have a 2005 Nissan Titan it has a Dana 44 but it has a 9" ring gear and no one is making gears for the thing. It also has the 32 spline axle shafts. I looked up a company out of California that has taken the Titan 44 and swapped out the outer pressed on flanges to the 32 spline Dana 60 and used the Titan shafts, brakes, and so on. Now you ask why someone wants to do this well the Titan uses toner rings on the axle shafts and when you just do an axle swap without the toner rings hooked up the truck starts to malfunction. ABS and cruise control and so on. I need to upgrade to the 60 anyways becouse I am running 38x 15.50's and with no R&P option out there I have no choice. I was having trouble when I try to do a search on the Axle. Next project is to do a straight axle conversion in the front. I hate posting this in the Dodge section but who else to ask about a Dodge than you guys!!:D

Dana 70.

My '98 has 32 spline 36.75" shaft (IIRC). All Dana 70 in the second gens were 32 spline, and they have the same outers as a d60. I get mine for about $75 each. Moser or Dynatrac will build you custom length 1541-H ones for $300 and $400 a pair respectively.

Ford used a 32 spline Dana 60 in E250/350s in the late 90s.

The axles in the Dodge/Cummins trucks are ALL full floating - not semi floating. They don't have pressed on bearings or flanges. If you're looking for semi floating axles with the pressed on flanges the info I posted previously won't help you.

You want factory ABS and cruise control to work right on a rig running 38's? I don't see it happening. I'd go back to running smaller tires, or ditch the whole rear and start from scratch. You can't have the ultimate trail rig and the ultimate daily driver in one truck - you've got to make compromises somewhere.

The '91 and up full floating axles DO have a tonewheel on the ring gear because they have ABS rear brakes. May be adaptable to your application? You'd need to ask somebody that knows how Nissan ABS computers read the pickup signal from the tonewheels and figure out a way to "fool" the computer to accept the new signal. If you're bound and determined to keep the ABS it's going to require some serious engineering to work.

also search for info on the Dakota Digital SGI-5 speedo interface box. 2nd gen Dodges also used tone rings on the ring gear for speedo and ABS signals. im swapping in a tonering-less D70U from a Ford(35 spline) and using the Dakota Digital box to take the speedo signal off the output sensor on the tranny.

not sure if you could use it on a Nissan, but worth checking out.

I don't really care if the ABS works I just want to keep it runnning. The guys at WFO consepts told me without the toner ringgs the truck runs for about 30 seconds in drive and the you stop getting throttle response and it slows down to an idle? I guess some kind of safety feature? I should just sell it and get me another Dodge 2500:D
Thanks for the info I'll check into the dakoda info you gave me.
