My bro just bought and LJ and wants some input.

He wants to build something crazy and needs some info.
:D

It is an '80 LJ.
Putting in toy axles / drive-train.

#1 Suspension type? Coils all around? Coils front / Elliptic rear?
#2 Fuel cell? What size, what type? Brand?

Ideas?

Input?

Thanks.
:D

well I have 79-88 TOYOTA rear springs all 4 corners with an xtra leaf, custom frame 29" wide front to rear same as toy front, so rears are inboarded like 5" per side so it flexs real well, but at 84" I am to short, best advice is to streach that wheelbase to around 100" I'm going like 97" so I have even length driveshafts, F&R 1 spare square shaft to carry. The toyota motot/trans/case/axles is the way to go! Sounds like you have it under control;) I like leafs cause they are cheap/easy to work with, and work well. and did I say cheap:question: :D

He's talking LJ, find a guy named Airzuki from BC. I believe hes heavy into OTT Industries

Also look in www.bc4x4.com, he has narrowed 44's (or 44/9" combo) and a toy diesel with some serious gearing.

His name is Ben Olsen and he's a busy fellow but knows his $hit.

OK...........a for real question now.

Last night, a buddy of ours who works for toyota brought us 10 bagged out 92 - newer coil springs. They are really bagged and super soft.

Would this be a good option for the front? We are thinking these coils front and attempting an eliptic rear.

Thanks :flipoff2:

it's quite eery in here, what with you and DSI hanging around:flipoff2:
the only way i think you will *really* be able to determine suitability will be static height versus compressed.
if you don't know the rating on the springs especially being "bagged" then find out how much force/weight it takes to compress the coil to just less than half of the binding point.*
ie if they're say 14" tall static, don't go past 7" at full compression, or they will be really really soft very quickly:D
most people i've heard go for about 2-3 inches sag at static ride height, using a 200 lb rating on the front i believe?
ask Brazilian Bill, he probably knows this:D

* from what i hear, anyways.......if it's all horribly wrong, sorry:rasta:

If memory serves me right(just ask subgrrl about my memory)I think those springs are very wide and short.Have you looked under an older Volvo rear. They are not as long as Aerostars and may have just the right rate for a sammy. Why the hell is Cam going to a sammy after having a runner? Is it going to be just a trail rig?If so I'd be interested in helping out a bit to shall we say teach myself some tricks :D :D .I'm waiting for the phone to ring and not mine yours.Ali just won't leave me alone and now I have to paint your basement ceiling.Next time she's on top that way I only have to put down new carpet.Wish I was as good as you in the sack then my chores would be easier. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :D :D

Well, if you wanna know my secrets to being good in the sack, ask Kim.
:flipoff2:

And as for your memory, does a sive (sp?) describe it accurately?

darn, I guess I won't be the only guy with a built LJ anymore:(
;) ;)
oh well ....... good luck , the only advice I can give is don't try and keep too much of the LJ $hit....... and lose the bar behind the seats ( unless you're a midget with no feeling below the neck, then it'll be perfectly comfortable ):D
