Tin Bender and I had a day to mess with my Scout, so we made a cage and put some 38's on it. The cage is set up for the family, so it's doesn't have the lateral cross support we do for most and it's not tied to the frame. However it was set up to be built off of if we ever decide too. The cage is made of 2"x.120 wall HREW and the it has some little 1"x.120 wall gussets.:)

Looks great. And one of the *other* reasons I put a cage on mine was to carry my 16' sea kayak!!! ;)

Don't have the back half yet, but since JF has his bender, I am going to let him sponsor my truck and bend up the rear hoop and weld in a pair of stringers for me.... ;)

Looks great Fatkid. Wasn't it you selling a SII a year or so ago? Maybe it was Camo?

Anyhow, I wouldn't be surprised if you saw that design on a bunch of Scouts here shortly with all the tube we just bought.

Bout dam time you started showing your face in the Binder section again. Cage is sweet, is it tied to the frame? I'd love to see some more pics, I'm starting on mine this weekend. I'm going to try and run the front bar down behind the dash to avoid problems with clearance.

Yes, my Scout is cute...:flipoff2:

Not sure what color were going to put on it, It looks trick with out paint. As for the frame tie in, not yet. Were still going to put some seats in it with some door bars and dash bar not to mention make the soft top. One thing that is cool is that the factory hard top still fits on over the cage.:)

looks great, fatkid.

Any chances you'd be selling these as a weld together kit?

Would love to see how you did the front area around the dash and door jamb.

Why bend the middle stringers on the back half out, instead of running them straight back to the rear hoop? Asthetics? I was planning on running mine straight back. Rear hoop, then four stringers up to the main middle bar...

Asthetics, was the only reason. :)

Hmm, now that you mention that - it would be a stiffer structure if the stringers ran from one corner to another diagonally.

Not sure what that does to passenger head clearance though. For a family hauler you can only do so much and still have a useful machine.

I'll take some pics today of the other areas of the cage, Not sure about the kits. We have however done another Scout since we did this one, I think knocked it off in under 4 hours.:)

Mark,

I forgot to mention that guy John (Camo Scout) came by the other day. He wanted to know if we were interested in wheelin/camping this weekend. I should have told him to go to the Con this weekend with you guys for a nice relaxing weekend!
