ok here it is guys I am in Iraq and I have been here 3 years now... long enough that my trucks in the states are in some real need of TLC and I am gonna be walking if I dont do somthing so ... I just ordered a new Tacoma regular cab 2.7L 5 speed base package truck and it has the electric shift transfer case I do not like this. Does that case have a provision to install a manual shift ?? ie... a cover plate on the top where the shifter should be and the shift rails setup to make it manual? or do I just have to live with wondering when the switch on the dash is gonna go out? have not had any exp. with the tacoma t-case.. all my junk is old..
*edit*
What is under the cover plate on the top of the rear case?? are the shift rails still there and set up for a shifter? if not can i put the shift rails out of the 04 down taco t-case in there and make it work? The cases look pretty much the same as far as the casting so can I make this minus the MC11 for now

I don't remember if it was this months issue of "peterson's off-road" or "4 -Wheeler", but in the back where they list new products, there was a vender that sold transfer cases(controlled manually) that bolted up directly to the new tacomas and fj's. There was even a few options of the gearing one could have in it.

Yeah I saw that I think it is inchworm "lefty".. I just dont trust the electric shift there is alot of mud and high water where I live... I have already seen to many problems out of water soaked t-case controls from other peoples rigs here.. that is why I am wondering if I can just drop a shifter in it if need should be.. any one got a pic of an 05+ t-case ??

Thanks guys I emailed Jim the post and he gave me the answer I was looking for.
*edit for those below*You can switch to the inch worm "lefty" or you can find an FJ case out of an auto tranny FJ and it is suposed to be direct bolt in to the 05+ 2.7L 5spd manual Tacoma with the electric shift transfer case...
I think with a small amount of machine work you can put the older rails in it dont know for sure ???? ????
Big Thanks to Jim @ Inchworm
Any one else got any ideas???

yeah it was the inchwormgear, looks like a sweet swap, for 1,700 I would just run the stock transfer until it starts acting up
redpim1- did you find out if one could put the shift rails out of the 04 down taco t-case in there and make it work?

Here's the lowdown:
When the Tacoma came out in 95, 4cyl trucks were equipped with W series trannys with 26 spline outputs. This was the case until Toyota changed the body style in 2005. Since then they have installed the R series tranny in 4cyl trucks with a 23 spline output. The FJ Cruisers with the automatic has a Tcase with a 23 spline input and a manual lever, so this is the Tcase you are looking for. I have access to a few of these at the moment. Give me a call if you are in need of one.

As we have all seen in the past Jim steps up to the plate and knocks it out of the park... :smokin: Thanks Jim.
