Heard a crazy rumor today.
I was told you must have a tag, and insurance to enter the trails at Tellico.
I am betting this is BS.
Anyone heard anything?

I heard this to. Was told all gov land required tag and insurance. Not saying it is a "fact". But what I heard through the grape vine.

you don't have to have them just to get on the trail but if you plan on drive on the road at all on the TN side you better the rangers are dicks about that but if you stay on the NC side you should be fine I no we stay at crawford and drive back and forth all the time with no problem.

you dont have to have tag and insurance in the ORV, but to get to the ORV on either side you must.. we got popped on the NC side on the drive in last memorial day.. the ranger then proceeded to check the cooler of every vehicle in the group, made 2 other guys pour out all the beer in one cooler(we dont drink on the trails, but when all the water, soda's and beer are in 1 cooler, thats the one you grab to take on the trail)we wasnt even in the ORV yet(about 100 yards from the entrance) and they wouldnt let us turn around and take the beer back to camp, b/c we "were obviously attempting to bring it in the ORV".we were then detained another 30 min or so after all that, b/c the ranger didnt feel that one of the backhalved jeeps in our group was truly street legal and wanted to start issuing tickets, even though the guy had tag/ins.

Thanks for the input.
The rangers will not cut you any slack. We all need to be aware of the rules and following them.

The TN sinde has always been a pain in the butt. They do not get any money from the OHV since it is in NC. So they stand right between Statline campground and the state line generating revenue.

It is pretty rare to even see a NC FS person there unless some dumb ass crashes on Trail 1.

I actually got 3 tickets for no tag no insurance and no registration($220)at the dixie run this year. I was on the north carolina side between the parking area and the paved road but still on the gravel. The ranger said he considered anything from the parking lot out was just like I-75.
