Thank you!

If you are talking about a front axle yes it will. but if a rear? no because the rearend of an xj is sprung by leafs. not coils like your tj

If you're going to throw 10k at a Jeep you'd better learn how to weld and fab. Custom parts that bolt in are $$$$

So, would the rear of an XJ work on the rear of a YJ since both are sprung by leafs?

I dont think they made a dana 44 for the front of an xj

Some TJs came with 44 rears, you just have to find one and bolt it in.

Yes, it will work. The only thing is that the spring pads on the XJ are on top of the axle, and on the YJ they are underneath the axle. So, new spring pads would need to be welded on the bottom of the tube for the XJ axle to go into the YJ. But, if you have a spring over, or are planning to do a spring over, then it will bolt in. I'm not sure about the spacing of the leaf springs, though, but I think it's the same.

Hello.:) I'll just get a TJ rear from a Rubicon or Sahara.
I was looking into the XJ axles due to them being to pleniful. And yes although I would love to learn how to fab my own parts I would have to buy a tube bender, welder. That would eat up allot of my money there.

Thank you all very much for the help.

Hello....... dude....... Though this is the flame free forum, you are still asking for it. As much as the Hello :) thing, is your thing....... I think you will find more help, if you speak like others do. Just a friendly new happy PBB non-flaming section suggestion.

In the front?Ive never heard of that.I know that some cherokees come with the rear dana 44 but never heard of a front.Although I also heard that some YJs came with rear dana 44s in Canada.Any guys that have a Export XJ confirm this?

TJ's and XJ's were available export w/HP44's. I think AEV or someone was offering the years ago, bought up a bunch of new ones from Jeep and imported them.

Awesome. Thanks for the info...was thinking about putting a 44 in the rear, keeping the 30 up front, and putting a Dodge 318, 360 or chevy 350. whatever i end up doing, it has to be street legal cuz this is my dd until after college.
if i went to a pick-n-pull junkyard, how hard would it be to find a 44 rear on a xj? are they common or rare?

btw, sorry for hijacking your thread buddy!:grinpimp:

Forget the dana 44 and go with a 8.8 or a 9 inch-they are much stronger axles than a rubicon 44(which is not a real 44).

I'm guessing that wouldn't be a direct easy bolt on, would it? how many modifications would be needed to fit one of those?

Google is your friend try
"8.8 TJ install" or swap or something like that
See, first try

or find a Dana 44 from a TJ.

Thanks! I'd love to find an 8.8 but it is hard to find one that sombody had in a TJ. Found one the other month that he was selling for $500. I was to late on the draw and smbody bought it.

I do not own a welder, nor have I ever welded. I don't own a tube bender, or anything od that sort. All I can really make is a seat bracket, just as long as it only needs to be bent and drilled.

I have a Fabricator that does a great job but he is $60 a hour.

I just want to get rid of the C-clip, thats all I care about really. I can go up to $1500 so I do have many options for a rear axle. But that $1500 dollar axle has to have lockers, gears, and be bolt in, unless I find one for like $1000 then I can have my Fab man do the work.

Once again thanks for the help.

The 8.8 i believe is close to the width your looking for and usually comes with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. With the 9 inch, you might want to look at Currie for a housing cut to your TJ. Find some used parts from around pirate and you probably hit below the $1500 budget. Also, the 9 inch is bulletproof and it has a removable 3rd memeber.I bought a Built Currie 9 on here for $700 Complete. It was an awesome deal and its an awesome rear end.

i was looking at what i thought was a zj d44 with disc brakes.will these axles bolt into a tj if they are from the same era?

era is a big little word. there are no D44's from the era of steam locomotives that bolt into a TJ. lol

the Zj's D44 does not bolt into a TJ, nor would you want to, as it has an aluminum center that eats bearings and has a TSB on cracking it with minimal force applied, like jacking the back of the truck up off it.

I'm in eastern Canada......no fronts, but lots of rear XJ D44's. and a few YJ's, but not many. around my crew, we don't even consider the rear XJ d44 rare, they pop up all the time. once the 8.25 started appearing, they stopped, so it's just in the earier XJ's.

Once agin thanks. I might have said this before but I'm not to skilled nor Sabby on this stuff. I just try to do what I can.
