Let us know when you're willing to come down and we'll set something up for you.
People call or e-mail us and we usually set up some runs depending on how long they're here for.
weridodude13 12-24-2007, 03:51 PM Anybody else sent their registration in yet?
J Kimmel 12-27-2007, 04:52 PM Anybody else sent their registration in yet?
not yet but really considering finally coming down. Where is a good hotel to stay in? Does it really matter?
weridodude13 12-28-2007, 11:26 AM Living in Cruces, I do not know where everybody is staying. I do know the Best Western on Ave. de Mesilla has been popular in the past. There is also another hotel right next to it.
That will give you about the closest you can get to the fairgrounds, and it is virtually right off the freeway.
Some others have also stayed at what is now called "Hotel Encanto" but location isnt the best for Chile Challenge. Also there is a Ramada right off the freeway on Univeristy Ave and Valley Drive.
Hope that helps.
J Kimmel 12-28-2007, 01:52 PM thanks, thats what I was looking for :) just a general idea of better locations. Is there trailer parking, or do we drive to the trails? Probably be pulling a 34 foot GN with two vehicles on it.
one more thing...the application asks for plate number, and insurance info. My truck has plates, but the other buggy has an OHV sticker and is insured, is that OK or must it have plates?
weridodude13 12-29-2007, 11:46 AM I "think" there is plenty of parking at all the hotels for the trailer... might ask them when you make reservations. They all should know about the Chile Challenge and the need for trailer space. Depending on what trails you run, and how "street legal" your rigs are, you can drive to the trail, but there is also trailer parking (read PLENTY of parking) right at the trails.
I am not currently affiliated with LC4WDC, been out of country for 9months. Not exactly sure on the plate issue based on that. I think in the past they had you put your tow rig plate, if you were towing to the trails. Maybe Jeephreak can comment on that some more.
Any idea what trails, or even classes of trails you are looking at? Extreme's will be filling up fast!
J Kimmel 12-29-2007, 01:18 PM thanks, definately extreme, and they are going in the mail just as soon as I can get an answer to the plate issue.
J Kimmel 01-03-2008, 03:00 PM sent in our packets today and booked a room also :D

To answer your question I am processing all your registrations as fast as I can input them. As far as the plate question is concerened we need either your plate number or your OHV sticker number because this year we need to prove to the BLM that all the vehicles are insured and at least legal in some way. Also, please be sure that if you do not have plates that you do not drive your vehicle on the roads if at all possible as they are enforcing that law heavily this year. We are also going to send out confirmation cards to all those who are registered before February 4. If you do not receive a card you will need to confirm your registration at the Registration Desk on site.
One thing that is different this year is that we will be performing a tech inspection as part of the BLM required washdown this year. Thanks!!
Jeephreakiwon 01-21-2008, 05:33 PM About 8 of us are going to be there.:grinpimp:

ElLizard 02-05-2008, 12:23 PM Last year we had a few jeeps that were not registered and they were still able to hit the trails. Usually people that are'nt registered can hit up trails after 12 p.m. We ran tobasco twister and patz. revenge last month, can't really say that anything on those 2 trails have changed much in the last year. Come march i'm gonna run patz. revenge backwards. Sceep put that idea in my head a few weeks ago, now i gotta do it.

Four Wheeling Friends:
Thank you for registering for the 2008 Chile Challenge. This email confirms that we have received your registration and are in the process of finalizing your trail choices. Thanks to a new version of Microsoft Access, we are still revising the database. Hopefully within the next 10 days, we will send each of you your confirmation number to bring to registration when you pick up your participant packet .
Quite a few of you printed the registration that we posted in early December. About mid-month we revised the second page to ask the following:
My Vehicle Is Equipped With:
Tow Hooks Front Rear
Solid Lockers Front Rear
Tire Size
Working Winch Yes No
My Vehicle Is Equipped With:
Tow Hooks Front Rear
Solid Lockers Front Rear
Tire Size (diameter)
Working Winch Yes No
If you missed answering these questions, please email me ASAP, as trail eligibility for the extreme trails will be determined by how your vehicle is equipped.
Also, I am the Land Use Coordinator for the Las Cruces Four Wheel Drive Club. As you well know, the land closure activists are targeting Doña Ana County for massive wilderness and national monument designations in an attempt to destroy our recreational opportunities. Hopefully you will not object to me sending you “Land Use Alerts” throughout the coming year asking you to contact our elected officials to oppose these closure efforts.
Thank you again and if you have any questions, please email me.

ElLizard 02-12-2008, 11:29 AM Hell I have not received crap from LC4WDC. Nor has my check been cashed. I've sent a few emails and nobody has responded. Maybe my registration never made it out of the post office!
river-rat 02-12-2008, 02:19 PM did'nt receive confirmation yet, but i did recive an email...
glenn_7_1069 02-14-2008, 06:07 PM I am an off-road enthusiast but i have to respond to the so-called "chile challenge event". The Chile Challenge is ( NOT ) even a real event, in layman's terms, it's a bunch of Western off-roading enthusiasts getting together off-roading. There aren't any monies or trophies given, so therefore, there is no winners or losers. It is just another day off-roading with the boys. So why would anyone want to pay a price to go wheeling when you can do that anywhere in Dona Ana County anytime free of charge as long as it is on BLM property. I don't mean any disrespect , but the truth is the truth.

I call bullshit. It is a "real" event because the BLM has issued permits, there are two dinners and a raffle. You don't know the difference between a "event" and just going wheeling.:flipoff2:

x2 on the BULLSHIT!!
10 PLUS YEARS AND ITS NOT A "REAL" EVENT!!Do you even know how much work it is to put on this type of event!? All of us who work towards making sure that this "Event" is properly run do so on our own time and of our own free will. Sure keep wheeling for free and trashing the shit out of our trails w/your shit friends but dont bitch when all of it is closed and you can't even walk on it anymore!! Sounds like you and you "WILDERNESS" friends are trying to get a response to a newb post for shits and grins. I personally take offense to that as you have no idea how much time and money it takes for us to keep fighting the good fight so the rest of you careless shits can keep wheeling for free w/those of us who actually care. You don't say where you're from but I don't care because you sure as hell don't understand why someone would go to all the trouble to pay to attend(some as far away as Switzerland) instead of just running their local trails over and over. I know most on here would aggree w/me. Those of you who don't give a shit and screw shit up all the time make us as a whole look bad and then that's all the "WILDERNESS" people tell everyone about us.
glenn_7_1069 02-14-2008, 10:44 PM why would anyone want to pay for what you call a "event, when its all BLM land and all is wellcome on the trail to off-road on.BLM states that there is no fee and all is wellcome to use all trails, but you are required to stay on all designated trails "ohv trails", and cleanup after yourselfs, what you take in, you take back out.
Jeephreakiwon 02-14-2008, 10:51 PM You do know that there are about 350 plus people who totally disagree w/you. If your POOR and can't afford it then just shut up and take your bitching to someone who cares.
For a good portion of us locals we work all year for this to be able to wheel w/others and have fun. You do also know that the BLM has issued us a "Exclusive Use" permit for this EVENT that will be enforced by local Law Enforcement to keep you off the trails while those of us who actually care enjoy them w/o any issues from you "TAGALONGS"!!
Jeephreakiwon 02-14-2008, 11:01 PM why would anyone want to pay for what you call a "event, when its all BLM land and all is wellcome on the trail to off-road on.BLM states that there is no fee and all is wellcome to use all trails, but you are required to stay on all designated trails "ohv trails", and cleanup after yourselfs, what you take in, you take back out.
If you were from another part of the state or country and had a chance to have some one show and guide you on trails that you would like to run but have no knowledge of or reason to come wheel; wouldn't you jump at the chance even if you had to pay!?
glenn_7_1069 02-14-2008, 11:09 PM now i am pissed, look asshole, i am not for that wilderness bullshit that the gov' is trying to pull.. and by the way i live in las cruces,nm . you know what i did last weekend by any chance, me and my family went up to dona ana mountains to maintain and clean up the trails. i dont drink, you must have me confused with someone else. i and my family has been cleaning up the trails becuz of assholes dumping shit.
ElLizard 02-14-2008, 11:17 PM This dude sent me an email of this same bullshit! :flipoff2:
Jeephreakiwon 02-14-2008, 11:19 PM now i am pissed, look asshole, i am not for that wilderness bullshit that the gov' is trying to pull.. and by the way i live in las cruces,nm . you know what i did last weekend by any chance, me and my family went up to dona ana mountains to maintain and clean up the trails. i dont drink, you must have me confused with someone else. i and my family has been cleaning up the trails becuz of assholes dumping shit.
Then why the hell are you bashing an event that obviously goes towards keeping all our trails open and responsibly used!?
Why would you come on here and specificly state that why would you pay to wheel if its free? Like I said before it takes more that just a weekend of cleanup to help keep the trails open and I take offence at you saying its stupid to pay. All of us in the club put in too much time to have to listen or deal w/people bashing The Chile Challenge just because they think its stupid or don't like someone and don't want to be stuck wheeling w/them. 350 plus people think other wise! NEWB!!
Jeephreakiwon 02-14-2008, 11:21 PM This dude sent me an email of this same bullshit! :flipoff2:
Seems like a lurking "Wilderness" or Sierra Club member trying to call himself an "Off-Road Enthuisast"! We need to watch out for these guys as they will be out in force this and next week trying to shut us down!!
ElLizard 02-14-2008, 11:46 PM I can't even wheel on extreme trails cuase i'm a local wheeler! thats a real issue!
glenn_7_1069 02-14-2008, 11:48 PM and allso by the way, yes i have a off-road rig. and i will be wheeling at that time, hope to see you all on the trails. have fun.

Thats news to me. You should have your confirmation by now if you provided an e-mail.
If you didn't get your requested trail and its full try asking the trail leader and see if he'll let you on anyway.
glenn_7_1069 02-15-2008, 12:01 AM well my family goes out every single weekend to clean up and to ride the trails, we dont see any of you guys helping any. we wer out last weekend at the dona ana trails and we wer the only ones out wheeling and cleaning/repairing up the trails. there wer a few people out there shotting there guns no one else. i have ran several people off cuz they wer trying to dump stuff out there. me and my family has picked up roofing nails that people purposely threw on the trails, those people are try to stop us from wheeling. i am NOT part of that type of group.

Don't be a crybaby! Man up and offer to help and maybe you'll be able to afford to attend and stop crying.
We could sure use some pics 'cause I think your just talking w/o proof!!
Just stop bitching!!
If you don't have the money or dont want to attend then fine. Just stop wasting all of our time. We've actually work hard for this and don't want some crybaby pissing and moaning when over 350 people have already signed up to play!!

Did he finish his new buggy? I heard its supposed to be sick.
ElLizard 02-15-2008, 12:14 AM He has an old buggy that will prolly never get to see rocks as long as he owns it ! but anyway check out the link, its pretty sick...http://www.boogerwelds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2166
ElLizard 02-15-2008, 12:15 AM He just finished it owner pics it up on sat.
ElLizard 02-15-2008, 12:27 AM Glenn can't handle this...And yes i'm perfectly content in my southwest redneck ways of breakin my shit... cuase cryin ain't gonna help you here bitch... carry spare parts...your gonna need em! COME AND GET SUM PUNK!
glenn_7_1069 02-15-2008, 12:45 AM ok neil if you say so.lol,lol...
ElLizard 02-15-2008, 12:50 AM Yeah that made me chuckle.
glenn_7_1069 02-15-2008, 12:58 AM why did it make you chuckle?,lol....
glenn_7_1069 02-15-2008, 01:23 AM i dont have any problem with the " chile challenge" in its self, i just dont see eye to eye on why someone would pay for that when its free to off-road here on BLM land trails. BLM dont charge a fee, all is required is that people stay on the designated trails, and clean up after them selfs. so what does one get by giveing that $ up?

Keeping public lands public.
Like I said before if you don't know the whole story:
glenn_7_1069 02-15-2008, 02:10 AM first of all fucknutts, you dont know me, so dont judge me. i have the $ if i wanted to pay into it, but i am choosing not to. dont get all butthurt here cuz i dont agree with you guys. this is one of many reasons why i dont join into any clubs anymore, becuz of attitudes like yours and many others.
J Kimmel 02-15-2008, 06:55 AM wow...I can see your point if you live there, I'm not sure if they had an event here in Denver if I'd want to pay either. I've never been to Cruces, neither has my friend and we're both pretty excited to come down and have someone show us around properly:)
Its also a good way to meet new people, I don't know any locals there, so I'm not sure I want to drive 650 miles each way to have some guy I met on an internet site show me around...he might be a complete idiot. This way you can check it all out, meet some cool people, and help out the cause. Maybe I'll meet some cool locals that I want to drive down and wheel with next time for free, I don't know.
No need to rain on it, lots of people are excited about it and the local club has put a ton of work into making sure it goes smoothly:)
SEE YOU IN 4 DAYS!!!:D
sceep 02-15-2008, 07:32 AM , i just dont see eye to eye on why someone would pay for that when its free to off-road here on BLM land trails. BLM dont charge a fee, all is required is that people stay on the designated trails, and clean up after them selfs. so what does one get by giveing that $ up?
1. we get fed 2 nights
2. we get an area with trash cans, showers, and shitters to camp for the week.
3. we get to camp on site with 350 other like minded people. we get to see freinds we only see at this event, and meet new ones from different places around the world.
4. we have the chance to win stuff in raffles.
5. we dontate to the land action funds. Sometimes its nice to meet your SW4WDA representitives and hand them a check personally. shake thier hands for their hard work, buy them a beer.
6. we get to thank the LC4WDC and its mebers PERSONALLY for all thier hard work and contirbutions in keeping the area open.
I'm sure i could come up with more if i spent more time, but thats what stands out the most to me. I am semi-local (ABQ), and do infact spend many weekends a year in the LC area wheeling. The fact of the matter is that we still pay to come to CC every year, for the reasons above.
If you dont feel the same way thats FINE. Why are you here in a thread about the event, if you dont care about it?? f-n beat it and go get to wheeling all by your lonesome.
Davidtacoma 02-15-2008, 09:12 AM Well chit... i'm confused now....
Sceep what is you comfirmation number?.....i'm 91
Got my comfirmation 2 days ago with this...
Wed......no trail selected
Thr........Patz
Fri.........Hababero Falls
Sat........no trail selected
I e-mailed the person back asking what was up with "no trail selected" know i picked 3 trails for each day, as i have a copy in front of me.....
I then get this reply a few minutes ago....
Well the last few days has been fun. It turns out that our new database decided to insert “No Trail Selected” in the confirmations for about six or seven trails. This is the first time my phone message box has ever gotten full. I have now double checked every single registration that someone contacted me about. In every single case, you DO have a trail that day if you wanted one.
If you are receiving this email, you are registered, and have a participant number.
Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions:
1. Did I get the trails I wanted?
A. If you asked for a hard, moderate, or easy trail – YES, you should have the trails you wanted. On the extreme trails, if your number is less than 100, still generally yes. If your number is over 100, I tried to give you at least three of your extreme choices with a hard filling in the fourth. If your registration came in after Feb 1st, you did get trails to run, but they may not be anything that you asked for. But you are on a trail each day you want to be.
So basically my line up "should" look like this when i check in?????
Wed......Patz
Thr........Patz
Fri.........Hababero Falls
Sat........Tabasco Twister
If thats the case, then why is sceep on Off Broad Sat when i know he sent his in a few days before me.
-David
ElLizard 02-15-2008, 09:17 AM I go wheelin everywhere for free also, well except for Moab, but none the less, we pay to do what other here have posted, if you can't handle it , don't pay, don't go, and have a nice fargin day! Quit bashin cause you don't want to pay, thats your problem! Leave us alone and have fun in the Dona Ana's.
I'm sure you will go far with your new locker in your blazer.:flipoff2:

Give us a shout when you do decide to come here and we'll be glad to guide or run the trails with you.:smokin:
Jeephreakiwon 02-16-2008, 09:47 PM Bitch Bitch, Bitch!! I told you there were plenty of people who disagreed w/your idiocy.
Now to quote SCEEP:If you dont feel the same way thats FINE. Why are you here in a thread about the event, if you dont care about it?? Beat it and go get to wheeling all by your lonesome.
Jeephreakiwon 02-16-2008, 09:50 PM I look foward to seeing all of you later this week. Some of you I'll be meeting for the first time and others I'll be seeing again. Good luck and a safe trip to all of you traveling down to enjoy our wonderful EVENT!! Long live the CHILI CHALLENGE!!
ElLizard 02-16-2008, 10:06 PM That fargin idiot went to 4 wheel parts and talked to my buds there today, they said he called me a snake in the grass. haaahhaaah!, and then thay said he wouldn't shut up! Imagine that! :flipoff2:
Jeephreakiwon 02-16-2008, 10:09 PM You do know that there are about 350 plus people who totally disagree w/you.
Just got this in a e-mail from the Las Cruces BLM Office:
"On Monday, the BLM will publish in the Las Cruces Sun News a closure notice for the general public for the Chile Canyon area. Our exclusive permit covers all the way to Habanero Falls this time. We have retained use of all of our CC canyon area trails."
glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 10:34 PM hi assholes, hi neil, dickheads you only have that one little area ,the rest of blm trails is all open to the puplic, you guys cant do shit, i have been to the BLM office and found out the scoop about all. so see you guys on the rest of the trails. i have seen the paper work on your so-called "event" and i have seen the maps that you guys have the "exclusive" right on, it an't much.
glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 10:36 PM Chile Canyon area, is the only area that you have "exclusive" rights to bone heads no other place, the rest is all open to the public.dont believe me, LOOK AT YOUR "PERMIT" AND PAPERWORK.
glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 10:41 PM Ask Me If I Realy Give A Rats Ass!!! I Will Be Riding All Trails, And U Cant Do Shit About Dickcheese......

glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 10:56 PM U Hav'nt Seen Nothing Yet!
glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 11:02 PM IDIOT!!!! Chile Canyon area, ONLY MAKES UP 2% OF ALL BLM TRAILS HERE IN DONA ANA COUNTY.... AND BY THE WAY, TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, I AM ( NOT ) A TREE HUGGER, NOR AM I FOR THAT "WILDERNESS" BULLSHIT.
glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 11:12 PM DONT WORRY, I WILL NOT "RAIN" ON YOUR LITTLE SO-CALLED "EVENT" OVER IN THE Chile Canyon area, THERES TO MANY OTHER TRAILS TO RIDE ON AND HAVE FUN WITH.
Jeephreakiwon 02-16-2008, 11:27 PM DONT WORRY, I WILL NOT "RAIN" ON YOUR LITTLE SO-CALLED "EVENT" OVER IN THE Chile Canyon area, THERES TO MANY OTHER TRAILS TO RIDE ON AND HAVE FUN WITH.

Come check us out and see how "LITTLE" we really are!!
glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 11:50 PM lol, i will not be by my self, i will be with lots of people
glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 11:54 PM compared to "moab" you are little.
glenn_7_1069 02-16-2008, 11:57 PM Thousands of Hard-Core 'Wheelers Converge in Scenic Utah For a Week-long Tribute to Rockcrawling (((( moab )))). lol, lol, compared to "moab" you are little.
glenn_7_1069 02-17-2008, 12:03 AM Each year during the week preceding Easter, an off-road event takes place in Moab, Utah, that defines the sport of rockcrawling. For more than 20 years, enthusiasts have been flocking to Moab during Easter week for rockcrawling to share the camaraderie that off-roading offers and to see and be seen at the numerous events, shows, and dinners put on by the Moab faithful. And they mean faithful: More than 5,000 4x4s and in excess of 12,000 spectators pack the city of Moab for a week-long celebration of wheelin'. ((( MOAB ))) IS A NATIONAL EVENT.
Jeephreakiwon 02-17-2008, 12:12 AM Now you're just being STUPID! Load you "family" in your Blazer w/its new locker and move to Moab if you think its sooo much better! I guess you just like to hear youself type or talk. Your just spewing stupid now and I'm not even gonna give you any more to spew about.
It's here, It's happening, Deal with it!!
glenn_7_1069 02-17-2008, 12:16 AM so your little "event" is by no comparison to "moab"your so-called "event" is just a gathering. they got way over 19,000 + people compared to your 350 people. some of you people need to stop saying your a real "event" cuz your not.
glenn_7_1069 02-17-2008, 12:23 AM the good thing about this is, i dont have to deal with it, thats why i choose not to join your clubs and not wheel in your so-called event. thats my right. to each there own. i am starting to think your guys in this forum love drama.

ElLizard 02-17-2008, 08:59 AM Glenn you are truely a fuckin moron. I sent you that email after you sent me the copy and paste of the bullshit you posted here! I wrote you that email to find out who and what you were up to. I sent a copy of the emails to the people who needed to see them. You fell right into a trap, you fuckin moron. I only wrote you that to see what you would say. Please go wheel and talk elsewhere, I personally think you are to closed/narrow minded to be part of any group or club, not to mention "YOUR A DUMBASS!". Please put this issue to rest already. Nobody here honestly give a rats ass what you think or have to say! So Fuck off you fuckin LOSER! :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::

glenn_7_1069: What does it matter what nick name we give it, A "event", "competition", "gathering", "mob meeting", "union meeting", "church" or a "cake social", since you are not going? You have chosen to not be a part of it, so let us call it whatever we, those of us that have chosen to be part of it, want to call it.
No this "church social" is not as big as Moab, but that's comparing apples to oranges. Moab has one or two more miles of trails than we have here. I'm sorry but that was just a dumb comparasin.
You own a blazer with a shop installed locker, so you do like offroading, but you are in no way able to do all the trails that are out there. Most of us have rigs that are "trailer queens" that we built ourselves. Cages, two solid lockers, lower t-case and axle gears, big meats, bla bla bla.
The closing of the "Cake social" canyon is for two main reasons, #1: SAFTEY, go back to last years pictures of the saturday's extreme trail pictures and you can easily see what I am talking about, It was STUPID crowded with spectaters. They are everywhere, like mice looking for "cake" scraps. There are winch lines running everywhere, rigs turning over from to much "cake" and these people have no idea of the dangers, they only want to get closer to take a picture with there "phone camera"
#2: Speed, we do have alot of rigs to sqeeze up and down the "cake canyon" That's why we all depart the fair grounds at a differant time, so hopefully, we meet in the canyon in a area that we can pass each other and not in a tight spot where one group has to wait or worst yet one group has to turn around or back up.
We are NOT closing the "cake" area to stop people from wheeling there just cuz we want our "cake" and we want to "eat" it too. We are only shutting it off to non paticapents for "safty" and "speed" purpose.
You may not wheel with the "Church" group's not because we think we are better than you, but because of insurance reasons, the trail leader is responsable for his group, All of which have signed a release.
This is BLM land and you may wheel this land for free all year, You can also wheel some of it during our "union meeting" just not with our "union" groups do to insurance reasons.
We have chosen to paticapate in this "Event" and you have not, That's why i love this country, we all have the right to do AS WE CHOOSE (that includes using the word "event")
Sceep said it well earlier when he said we go to this "thing" for more reasons than to just wheel, we go for the comratery. If you ever build something for your truck and you install it yourself you will understand what we are talking about, you want other people to see what you built and you want to see other peoples rigs to get some ideas of what they have done.
There's alot of "socializing" that go's on here, If you don't belive me just come out to the fair grounds one afternoon or evening and just walk around, there's alot of people walking around talking to each other, working on there rigs, eating, just shooting the shit. Best of all it's time off work with friends, new and old.
So please don't talk shit about, or question what we choose to call our "whatever". You made your choice NOT to go so you also made your choice NOT to complane about it. It's like voting DON'T bitch about who got elected if you didn't vote.
Everyone else; just don't post up to this guy anymore let him rant all he wants you are only instagating him. He does not have a rig that is ANYWHERE capable of doing the trails that are off Big Jim canyon, so he will be in the Dona Ana mountain area with his picnic basket and blanket, Let him be.
I AM DONE HERE...........

Cloak 02-19-2008, 09:56 PM Looking forward to meeting some of you folks. I'll be getting in late Friday to spectate on Saturday. I have a buddy of mine who is going on some of the easier trails earlier in the week. We're also taking out some of our rc rock crawlers to play around with as well.
Are the trails open to the public on Sunday? I'd like to do some wheeling, nothing too extreme as my grocery getter isn't nearly as built up as many of the other rigs I've seen.
One other question, any suggestions about using a cb or not? I know it is the age of the cell phone, but I didn't know if there would be any chatter on the cb channels.

yes the trails are open sunday, here in dona ana county trails that are on BLM land are open 24/7 to the public. There are over 45,000 miles of roads and trails that provide access to most areas of public land here, and offer vehicle recreation opportunities ranging from scenic drives on maintained roads to extreme four-wheel driving, not to mention all-terrain vehicle and mountain bike trails. These public lands also include developed picnic and campgrounds, hiking trails, scenic byways, historic and prehistoric sites, rockhounding, mountaineering, and even a little fishing. ((((The Robledo Mountains Off-Highway Vehicle Trail System is a network of trails, including both extreme OHV and mountain bike trails, in the southern Robledo Mountains. The trails are dominated by enormous rocks, making the terrain extraordinarily challenging for riders. The extreme OHV trails require specialized vehicles, with locking differentials, winches, and expert drivers. Vehicle damage is not uncommon on these very difficult OHV trails. )))) Location / Access
The Robledo Mountains OHV Area and SST Trail are in the Robledo Mountains about four miles northwest of Las Cruces. Take Valley Drive (U.S. 85) north to Shalem Colony Trail, go west on Shalem Colony Trail across the Rio Grande, turn right on Rocky Acres Trail, and take the first left off the wide dirt road. You will see signs for extreme four-wheel drive trails south of the main road; trails north of that road have been closed. The main road goes west toward a rock mine; take the left fork in the arroyo bottom, climb the hill, and go right up the canyon bottom to find the mountain bike trail and additional extreme four-wheel drive routes. and yes a ( c.b )is good to have.
Cloak 02-20-2008, 08:32 PM I've read through the thread and I understand the motive behind your post. What I'm specifically asking is are any of the easier trails open on Sunday which are otherwise restricted during the event.
Meh, I'll find out either way when I get there.
weridodude13 02-20-2008, 08:57 PM Had an absolutely awesome day here in Cruces today, hope everybody enjoyed the trails!

ABQ-TJ 02-24-2008, 03:30 PM every one of glenn's posts are solely in this thread...wtf?
Anyway, hope you guys had a GREAT time this week. I didn't make it down this year, but might again next. I had a ball the last two years down there, just scheduling didn't work out for me this time.
Cloak 02-25-2008, 07:21 AM It was a lot of fun, glad I went.
weridodude13 02-25-2008, 10:14 AM The local paper here in Las Cruces, NM (where Chile Challenge is held) is running a poll.
"The Las Cruces Sun News is conducting an on-line poll about if the Chile Challenge should continue. We need all the votes we can get. Please go to this URL and vote YES:
http://www.lcsun-news.com/ It is on the left hand side of the page and most likely you will have to scroll down a bit to see it. Get your friends to vote yes also."
Much appreciated, and if you have not ever made it to this event, you are missing out. Let's hope this was not the last year for it.
Thanks!
