yes i've searched. i'm going to go to the yards and need to know what i should be looking for. i'm rebuilding a front waggy 44 and need to know what to look for. i've got a few specifics...
1. - want to have a 5x5.5 bolt pattern, i know i need to get ford rotors, but can i use chevy spindles and knuckles and hubs?
2. - doing high steer - i'm thinking i'm going to use chevy knuckles, trying to find the ones that are flattop obviously, but what years should i look for?
3. - does a 10 bolt use the same outers as a 44?

what woudl you guys do, would you use chevy stuff or jeep stuff? i know i should be able to use the old jeep d30 stuff, but if i did that woudl i be able to use the 27sp. outers from the 30 and then the normal 30 sp inners for the 44? and i searched and found something about using dodge stuff because it has 30 sp outers that are 1.5" but doesn't have lockouts, what do you all think about that?

Just my .02 here, but if your thinking of the CJ stuff, don't.
I did CJ outers on my D44. The lock-outs suck, you can't keep the bolts tight, and cannot keep water out of the hubs. I've gone thru at least 2 sets of bearings and seals for each side in just over a year. You have to bore the outers for the 297 joint, or buy Warn stubs. Then there is the whole 27 spline stuff. :barf:

From what I'm told, if you have the waggy outers (6 bolt knuckles & spindles) you have most of what you need. Just round up some Ford hubs and rotors. Not 100% sure on calipers, but I'll bet there is info on that floating around the board... If I every get some free time, I'm considering redrilling some Waggy hubs for 5 on 5-1/2. Just cause I have them laying around.... :)

If you want to go 5 on 5.5 with Ford rotors you need to use the smaller inner wheel bearing spindle. This was used on Wagoneers and chevy's until mid year 1976. The 10 bolt stuff is interchangable with the 44 stuff except for the different spindle diameters. They went to 10 bolts around 77 I think. The flat top chevy knuckles are identical to the flat top wagoneer knuckles except with the chevy, the driver side is already milled flat and has 3 studs in it. I am not sure the year range for the flat top knuckles on both sides. All these parts even on the 10 bolts are made by Spicer btw.

you sure you searched? all this has been covered at least 20 times and was even topic of the week in the Jeep section

you'll need ford hubs, not chevy, since chevy's are 6 lug. Now the lockout's are all the same. and yes, 10 bolts are the same outers as a 44 but they don't have the right spindle. You need pre 77 spindles

i would like to know for sure whether these 74-76 waggy front d44s have the diff on the passenger side or not. i'm trying to find a suitable axle to swap under my Kia Sportage front end and i need a cheap, relatively strong axle with a passenger side diff, 4.88-ish gears (stock Sportage gears are 4.78, just play with pressures a little), a 5-5.5" bolt pattern and around 61" wide from wms to wms. i'm hoping to use coils, early Bronco arms and a track bar. the reason i need it to meet these specs is that i can't afford to swap the t-case (which would require a 2wd tranny adapter and a divorced case) and i can't afford to swap the rear axle yet so i gotta keep the gears close. i already have a good set of coils made by Valley Spring works (incorrectly for original purpose). i can either make some links or pick some out of a junk yard, or both. thanks for any info.

Carquest or southern auto has a new hub and rotor assembly for a late 70's ford f150 for 30 bucks each side.......go buy that!!!

Also the Wagoneer brakes will work with the Ford rotor. And the Waggy axle shafts will work with them too

Waggy flat tops will work for High Steer also....
go here for your steering parts!

yeah i looked over tha TOTW and it had some help but i may have missed some stuff i guess. so if i use the chevy knuckles and spindles, i can then just put the ford rotor and hub on that, which will give me the 5x5.5 bolt pattern, but then what shafts should i use? should i use the waggy shaft inners AND outers? or should i use a waggy inner, and a chevy outer since i'm using the chevy spindle? thanks for the help so far guys. just trying to figure this out and get this thing finished asap.

2. - late 70's ford hub and rotor (i can get for really cheap)
3. - wag axle shafts

wow that looks a lot less complicated than it sounds lol. thanks for the link for the steering stuff btw rudezuk. ok, well ya'll tell me if i forgot anything. thanks for the help guys, this board kicks so much ass! :D
