: Boggers... Pro's and Con's
ROCKDADDY 10-25-2001, 03:37 PM I am interesting in a set of 35" x 14.5 15 Boggers for a good deal. People who run them, how do you like them. I know they are excellent for mud but how do they do in the rocks and snow? Should I go for a good deal on these or save my money for a while and try and afford some SX's? All comments welcome.

GloNDark 10-25-2001, 03:47 PM Get the boggers if they are a good deal man. Killer in the rocks, mud, snow, water (as long as you are not sliding sideways! ) They are loud as hell on the road. But well worth it from what I have seen.
Hell if you don't like em, let me know and I will trade you for my 15/35 TSL's.
ROCKDADDY 10-25-2001, 03:52 PM These would be on my trail rig that only gets drive to and from the trail so I am not worried about road manners or mileage just offroad performance. I know abou the lack of sideways traction, can Boggers be siped or grooved to improve that?
66CJdean 10-25-2001, 03:52 PM Not the best choice for slab type rock. They work best in/on loose stuff.
Richie 10-25-2001, 04:00 PM Boggers kick ass. They just don't like the street that much. They work great for me. They kind of suck out at the dunes. I guess I just don't have enough power to keep em spinning fast enough. Oh well.
ROCKDADDY 10-25-2001, 04:07 PM Anyone know if a 35" Bogger measures 35"?
wsuxjer 10-25-2001, 04:22 PM My 35-14.5 boggers measure a little over 34" on a 15x10 wheel. They work great in mud, rock, etc but dig too much in the snow.....
ROCKDADDY 10-25-2001, 04:25 PM Great info guys. thanks and keep it comming. I won't be doing anything until this weekend so keep all comments coming.
white knight 10-25-2001, 04:25 PM Best off road tire you can buy, not only in performance but looks.
I wouldn't get anything else for a trail rig.
On ice they suck.
Soft rubber so they wear out fast but if you don't drive on pavement much it doesn't matter.
Go boggers all the way
Shaker 10-25-2001, 04:41 PM 1 word BOGGERS BOGGERS BOGGERS BOGGERS

I'd go Boggers unless they're Pat's. Pat's Bogger will make you go X-treme and that's not pritty:O
Erik D_lux 10-25-2001, 07:57 PM If you can go with the 35x16. They are taller, deeper tread, and larger voids. Like stated before except for the road they rule! I havent had problems with lateral traction. I think thats something that people that DONT have boggers say.
Scrambled 10-25-2001, 08:22 PM If you are worried about lateral traction they can be grooved easily to help with this.
Jeepinguy 10-25-2001, 10:38 PM I havent had problems with lateral traction. I think thats something that people that DONT have boggers say.
you have never been on a MUDY side hill have you!! I run 35-14:50-15's and they suck for Lateral Traction in mud!! GREAT for every thing else!! rocks, mud, sand, deep snow!drop them down to about 8lbs of air and go where you want!!!!!!!

I live in Oregon, what do you think? In this spot I had enough lateral traction to pop a bead.

kstomper 10-26-2001, 09:21 AM best set of off-road tires you can buy ! i would say boggers give 50 to 75% more traction than tsl and sx's. i've even got them on my HONDA FOURTRAX 4X4 300 !!!

What are you talking about . I had some bald ass 33x14 Boggers on my YJ and I could drive circles around my friend with 33x15.5 TSL SX's in over 2 feet of snow!!! Oh yeah and at that time I had open diffs and he was locked front and rear . They dig just fine and seeing as how I have 4 angry hamsters and at that time I had stock gears I don't see the problem.

ErikB 10-26-2001, 11:24 AM OMG, TWO FEET OF SNOW- THAT'S CRAZY!!!
I think when he said they dig, he meant that if you're not carefull, they will dig holes in deep snow (probably a lot deeper than 2 feet ), so you can sink and get stuck...
FWIW, Eight's 35/16's worked great at Iron Mountain last winter. He could crawl and kinda float over the top and break trail for the rest of us, or he could haul ass and get crazy too.
Eight buried in the ditch:

woody 10-26-2001, 11:49 AM We had a couple of VERY similarly setup vehicles on a snow ride last year...the boggers just didn't go nearly as well as my SX's did, regardless of being first or last in line.
I've been really happy with my SX's...they've been a "point-and-shoot" tire for me.
Richie 10-26-2001, 12:37 PM For those of you whose boggers see a little street use, did you balance them? I had mine balanced when I first got them brand new and they took a ton of weights. It's been about 6 months and I am sure they are out of balance from the wheeling I do and getting worn in. Should I just rip all the weights off and see how it goes or get them re-balanced. I sure don't want to pay to get them balanced too many times. What do you guys do. Thanks
poppycock 10-26-2001, 12:46 PM i had 33x14s on my zuk for a while. weights all fell off after the first trip out. never needed to balance them. got it up to 70 (downhill) every now and then. they made less noise than my tsl's on the street. i liked my tsl's more though so i just bought some sx's this time around.

Never balanced them- never had a problem
What do you want to balance them for? 5 minutes into the trail and they'll be out anyways.
As for lateral traction, I've been in nasty mud and all kinds of crap and I've never had problems loosing it yet. ( Note the -yet)

Umm 2ft would't be much of a problem. I'm talking like 3ft or more, they tend to dig down rather than climbing on top of the snow.

DAMN! I have 28x12.5" Outlaws on my 300, and I thought that was pretty big. I have seen a few Polaris 2 strokes ridin around with 33" tractor tires. What size boggers are you using and do you have any pics?
OffroadRunner 10-27-2001, 07:02 AM I have 33-12.5's unbalanced. Dont bother with the weights. I have heard of people balancing them with bb's or golf balls. Seems to work for some people. The are LOUD on the highway, but for trail use I wouldn't trade them for the world. I was up in PA a few months ago. Exploded the front diff. Finished the trail in 2WD and didn't have to get pulled or winched even once. Although my buddy wth BFG MT had some probs in 4WD. I love them...........buy them. Yes they can be siped. I have noticed great improvments on wet roads and rocks after I siped mine. Buy them, Buy them, Buy them I say.....
milleniumfalcon 10-27-2001, 07:14 AM Work great in the snow at about 2lbs and beedlocks I'm allmost un stop able.I eaven have them balanc ed with the beedlocks. 35/16/15 boggers/the perfect tire
Sillyneck 10-27-2001, 07:18 AM Got Bogz.......
Lance 10-27-2001, 07:24 AM Boggers fully get it in the snow. You just gotta air them WAY down. TSLs and SX's can't keep up. Iron Mtn, bring it.
milleniumfalcon 10-27-2001, 11:23 AM Oh, and there is one more thing about boggers kids. If ya get stuck in the snow and ya got the beedlocks . ya just pull the valve stem and run flat, yes flat. did this last winter on a Zombie iron mountain run.Took the back way home down happyvalley road and had to many heinies/misjudged a turn and wound up in a ditch almost on my side.alll alone halfway between Ironmountain and Mt Aukum rd. just me ,the biotch and the cattle dog,3 more heinies and a half gallon of H2O. thought i was fawked.I slamed 2 heinies and got out pulled the stems. locked in the 2nd case went forward and dug a little.put it in reverse and nailed it , I fawkin launched outa that hole like a motha.the Boggers saved my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm runnin' boggers on my CJ-7 and treadlife is not that good although that's not really why I went with 'em. One minor annoyance, on lighter vehicles during the winter is, like all bias ply tires, they have a tendency to be out of round from sitting and in cold weather they never warm up enough to get round again (unlike summer, no prob). Makes jeep feel like your driving on square tires. BTW, my scrambler has radial swampers on it and they are a great tire also, year round (and they stay that way) but are not as good traction wise. IMHO
ratman 10-28-2001, 04:55 AM I run 16/35/15 Boggers on my rock rig and they aint nothing but the stuff. Other than a lack of respect for steering parts I love 'em.
Joe
rockhog 10-28-2001, 03:53 PM Get the Boggs, they rule in about all situations. They kick ass in the sand if you
got the ponys to back um up. I was beating
the Banshee's at comp hill in Pismo last summer with um! Make sure you groove and sipe them for winter and ultimate rock perf!
badfish 10-29-2001, 08:42 PM The one question I've got is all the boggers I've seen are cut almost like SX's. Ran uncut boggers, dug them in the rocks accept for the side slide., but shitty in the snow. Just got SX's but haven't run them in the snow.
Bgcj5 10-30-2001, 10:19 AM Boggers are the only way to go in my opinion. They work greta in all kinds of terrain and they look killer.
