should i move this shackle reversal higher up onto the frame, or just use this spring hanger that is already there. i'm leaning towards higher onto the frame, but everybody is telling me to leave it there, the 38s will cover it. i figure i should move the mount forward at least 2 inches as well.

its all just kinda being put in place so far, we still haven't put on the real cross over steering or cleaned anything up. fenders getting wacked, 38sx, 12 bolt in back, lower mounts on shocks gonna be raised, .....

opinions opinions opinions wanted!!

HOW ABOUT SPRING 1 1/2- 2 INCHES LONGER.. AND THE SHACKLE ANGLE WILL BE FINE

Yup, I would definately move the mount forward, and up. Moving it up will help a ton with your crappy pinion angle (from the pics it looks like it's pointing down  . Moving the shackle back will help with flex. Move it.

Looks like it all hangs down way too low, and that shackle angle sucks.

I think it hangs down alot more than would be desirable, that is just me, I dig the way you built the front spring mount! ( PS did you get the money order for that locker I sent you yet?)

move it forward or get some longer springs! hell its going the wrong way

Move them up. Rock catchers is what they'll be in that location. Moving them up will also help your pinion angle some. This is necessary because with that shackle reversal plus some droop your pinion will be straight into the dirt.

i dont like the whole thing...looks like you are going to be too tall.
i would get the front mounts closer to the frame and on the back i would just weld on a spring hanger like off a CJ for you shackle.

but if you dont want to do that than i would just get a longer spring like stated above

every shackle reversal kit I have seen looks like that (remember the cute little 4x4wire jeeps jiMMy?)

Of course I think that angle sucks ;)

Weld on some new hangers in front of the ones you have..

I say wait! Those look like new springs and there is not many leafs in there. After you drive that thing a little the spring will flatten and the shackle angle will improve greatly. Yeah the shackles hang down a bit and thats not the greatest. Let everything settle and then look at the angle. I bet after those springs flatten you will better that shackle angle by a ton.

I got your address, dont make me come out there :flipoff2: J/J
Is that a shim under the springs ? dont leave that in there if it is, thats bad JuJu bro!!!!

actually, we have a 6 degree shim sitting there that was going to bring that pinion up, but i want to bring that shackle up to avoid the shim. i have faith in that little shim though, its not alum. i figure i will build the whole thing once, then go back and start changing things as i need. i think a bunch of things will work fine, and a bunch won't. also, since the rear is going to be a coil 3 tri link thingie with johnny joints, we still have plenty of time to REALLY screw up!!

and ignore those U bolts!! those aren't the real ones.

Your approach angle is going to suck with the springs hanging that low in the front.- you will bang up against everything. If it were me I would cut that correction kit in half and find different springs, but it looks like you spent some big $$ on it already.

i don't think i'm gonna hit them too much with big ass swampers on there, the front doesn't hang down any lower than my old shackles did, its not a kit, i haven't spent any money really, carl is just welding shit together for me, rather nice welding i must add. welds way better than i do. i just stand over his shoulder and complain about when its gonna be done.

Either move the mount forward or just get some waggy springs....They are 2" longer than YJ springs.....That could solve the problem there!

Oh and that thing is way too tall!!! Cut those mounts down and those shackles too!!

ya, but those are new springs damn it, i might just run this for awhile, then when i kill these springs in a few months, toss on waggies. we are building this thing with parts on hand and lots of welding. keep the opinions coming though.

i'm gonna have an awesome approach angle by the time i am done actually, i don't think those front mounts are really gonna hit anything.

i just have to find new trails to run now.

measure from front hanger bolt hole to rear shackle bolt hole, then subtract length of your shackle. Add an inch and that is about how long your springs should be for that setup...

You can work the other way too, since you got the front set, measure your springs and subtract the shackle length and add an inch or so for good measure. If it don't work out perfect make some new shackles ;)

I would definitely strengthen those stock mounts before you wheel it.I ripped mine off. just a helpful hint.

One (of the many) thing I see also is that there is no bushing's on the upper end of the shackle. That is not a good thing!
Those shackles will not work at that angle, those front mounts are way to tall, get your lift from springs. I could go on:eek:
