: Gathering firewood for campfires along the trail

Fuel wood cutting generally is approved for the Eldorado national forest, and there are regs and restrictions and guidelines. One can get a permit and cut wood up to certain amounts and during certain times when the fire risk is low.

But what about gathering firewood along the rubicon trail for campfires?

Some might argue cutting downed and dead wood ( the only kind that can be cut with out a special permit) should not be done along the trail because of the scrutiny that is on the trail right now.

Others might argue cutting dowed and dead wood reduces the fuel load along the trail and might actually improve the health of the forest adjacent to the trail.

I suppose we can all share our opinions on this but does anyone know what the position from the forest managers is?

Is there an official position?

If not, should there be?
