I have a 91yj,4.0 ho,that the guy I got it from had someone put an auto/trans in.(had a manual before) All I know is that it was suppose to be from a later model TJ. It has the locking t/c but is not hooked up.My wiring is stock but he may have changed the ecm(rumor) hell,I don't even know what trans model was put in it, but it does have the plug on the side for the lock-up(999?)I did do some checking and ofcoarse the lock up t/c is not supported by my stock wiring in my 91
Can I ID the trans. by the 'pan'? And is there anyway to get the lock-up hooked up properly?...it runs and works just fine, but I would like very much to have it hooked up correctly and maybe get some better highway milage.
I can get pics from underneath when I get it out of the snowy driveway.
Any help will be appreciated (by the way I'm not in a smog regulated state any more so I can basicly change anything, and was actualy wondering if I could adapt a '700r4'locking t/c wiring kit to it(?) ) thanks ,JJ

I would say post some pics and dimensions. It could be a AW4 also

32RH? Put a manual switch in for the lock-up?...

it seems to me that a manual switch would be a last choice, and a recipe for disaster. if i can figure out how to get a disconnect(solinoid) hooked up to the brake...maybe I'll do that .
the trans still has the 'bar-code' sticker on it,maybe the dealer can read it for ID

I think Knucklehead answered your question as far as what to do about the lock up T/C. A lot of people have wired a switch onto the dash before.

Either that or you will have to install a WHOLE new wiring harness. The quickest way to figure out what tranny you have is to get a filter kit for it. They show the different pans and you can tell that way. So go visit your local NAPA and your golden.

shure its not a 999? the 904 is the one found behind the 2.5L

well i went to the dealer and talked to the parts guys and they showed me the pan gaskets, the 999 has an extra part in on the case(and pan) where the dipstick comes into the case, mine does not. he said the 999 is the heavy duty and the 904 is a medium duty.

The 999 and 904 use the same pan and pan gasket:

4295 875AB Oil Pan Gasket
5211 8802 Oil Pan

The part number should be on the case just above the oil pan on the drivers side. Use Goop (or similar) and a rag to clean it so you can read the numbers.

Different model years may have different numbers...

Why not just hook up the lock up with a switch to see if it even works? There should be no difference between the 999 and 904 for that exercise.

[ Edit ]
Here are some 32RH part numbers - no guarantees as to accuracy....
