: Mog axles?

Ever thought about swappiong Mog axles under an EB? The thought has crossed my mind quite a bit recently. What would be involved. I can score the axles for about 2000, and then swap them in. They already have the lockers and gears. I would have to 4 link the front and rear, and then go with the coils I have right now, or get some cloilovers. I can run just about any tire size I want, and be VERY happy with it. has anyone ever thought about doing this?

I'd love to do it... where can you get the axles that cheaply? I'd like two steering axles... debating whether this or 2.5 tons are the way to go in the future...

There is no question about it. The Mog axles are SOOOO much better than the 2.5 tons. I don't like the weaker stub shaft on the 2.5 tons.

I guess it would depend on how much lift but do you think there would be any issues with diff clearance since it is higher? I mean keeping it away from the frame or oil pan...

You would need either coilovers or stockcoils or even possibly lowerd coils. I don't remember the amount of lift you gain from the portals 6-8". But you would have to counter it with a low slung suspension. I don't think there would be any difference in clearence issues with the housing and oil pan that you have now.
How about you get them and trade for my axles.:flipoff2: thats a good deal in my book.

No you would not have a problem with axel to frame clearance. The axel is in the same spot that yours is now, just the ends are droped. I do not know what the drop is but lets just say 5" ( and if you can prove me wronge then I will have another beer, so please try) you could run stock suspention and still run 35" tires easy but have the diff clearance of 45" tires with no lift!

there is a lot involved here, its the little things that get you, yah know? Mog axles are nice, 404's are rated at 1.5 tons and the portal gives you about 6 inches roughly. The diffs are flat bottomed similar to shaved, and the tubes are stouter than all heck. The torque tube is a interesting item, you have to go with a custom flange to run normal driveshafts, or run Mog running gear. Mog engines are extremely underpowered but very torquey, you can get out of the truck and walk along side with no problems at all, with certain setups you can barely tell they are moving. 404's are common, Cold War Remarketing sells fronts for $1350 complete (it's in Colorado). Rear steer is a snap, pretty close to bolt in. 421's have narrower axles than the 404's, I'm not sure about 416's. My cousin has the HP D60, it is awesome, but I would take a mog axle over it for price and purpose, come to think of it I did. Disk brakes can be added, but it will cost you, but some came stock with air assist drums that will stop you just fine. The frame of a Mog ads a ton of flex, the coils work great also, you do not need coil overs, but a long travel shock is a must to get full potential out of it. I could go on but I got to get back to work, I'll simply leave it at Mog axles are incredible, and if I had it to do over again I would have bought them right off the bat. Good luck in your researching.

Yea, I am gonna do it, but not for a while. I need the rig to be a daily driver for a few more years. As soon as I can make it my "wheeler" I will do the mog setup.

What is the built in gear reduction of Mog axles? 6.something right?

You guys are giving me a hard on with all this talk. I just built new front and rear ends. This is not funny!

ah shit, one last question. Selectable lockers? Also, does that $1350 include a locker?

7.56 is the final. all mog axles have selectable lockers. not sure about the width but i'd guess around 69".

404:
The r&p is 3.55. The end gears are 2.13
7.56 final.
the lift is 4-5/8"
I think the width is 71"

I just finished building my RC 44 and 9". SO I am gonna stick with that for a bit. When I buy a house, and get a tow rig, the bronco is getting a MAJOR overhaul. GEtting a narrow body, and some mog axles. As for the different sides with the offset, I figure I can get a chevy atlas, and then talk to Jesse about fabbing something up.

The pinion is actually only offset to one side by aboout 3.5" (I believe it is to the passenger side:confused: )
Also, the pinion is something like 16 inches long making it very difficult to deal with in lifted, short driveshaft situations. I have seriously considered using these axles, but these two factors make them difficult to deal with.

Hahahahah yea, I sold it to get a comp Jeep. I would have to say the guy that came to get it is going to take care of it. He works at a body shop, and is going to clean it up and paint it. It is going to look much nicer than it would if it were in my hands. I tend to beat up rigs on the rocks. and I mean BEAT UP!!!!!!
