Who has an oil pressure guage and tach that works on the F toy.
Installed Autometer oil pressure guage. (electric) It has not move at all. I read oil pressure is not very high and the guage starts at 20. After doublechecking all connection, I think there is not 20psi.
I feel like I have adequate oil pressure for two reasons. First I have driven it for about 20mins. Second I had fair oil pressure with the factory guage from the donor truck.
Tachometer is also autometer. I connected it to the factory tach wire and nothing. Another interesting note. The tach stays on 1000 rpm. Whether it is hooked up or not.

What do you need a tach for? It's not like you're drag racing or something like that:laughing:

Get a lower pressure gauge. Our engine sits ~2 psi at idle. Toys typically have very low oil pressure at idle, and develope fairly quickly off idle. Wrap the motor to 5k and youll see that gauge move!

We dont have a tach yet. Still hoping that autometer comes out with one that matches the rest of our gauges. Til then, we just shift when the valves float.

And to answer MD, some owners of ftoys have uses for the other 3 or 4 gears in the tranny! :D

Yeah but what's the tach gonna tell you that the sound of the motor wont?

Here's the tech page for Autometer. They may have the answer to your question here. If not. Give their tech line a call. They have pretty good service.

We don,t run a tach, but we do use a mechanical oil pressure gage, our car idles at about 25psi then goes up to 50/60 when on the gas. you need to keep an eye on the plastic line or just buy a braided line thru summit

Dont really need it. I just like to have several ways to monitor the engine.

You may have nailed the tach problem here. I dont think I have a power wire hooked up. I will check it out tommorrow.

Sounds like you may have a ground issue? Make sure you have adequate ground from batt. to frame and eng. block. If that isn't it check to make sure you have the proper tach wire (the toy faq may tell you which wire?). Then make sure you have 12v and ground to guage. If none of that is the prob then your tach is bad. Good luck!:D

Make sure you set the tach to work on a four cylinder engine. all the tachs I have ever owned have a switch on the back. If it doesn't have some means of changing it, it probably means it's only for a v-8

Run it then, just know when it reads 4000 you're only turning 2000:flipoff2:

I prefer the mechanical gauges for oil and water. As far as a tach goes I'm with the shift when the valves float group.

I rarely have less than 20psi at any time other than running on my lid.

BTW-If a tach is stupid then what do you say to a guy with a tach, water temp, trans temp, oil pressure, oil temp, and volt meter. I just can't help it. :homer: Every time I night ride I feel like i'm piloting a 747. :D

Well I think this thread just shows us how shot this engine really is! Proof you dont need a good or even decent motor for a crawler!

I haven't bought any gauges yet (I'm very noob when it comes to that stuff) You all have a "recommendation" on gauges? Like buy these they work great with a 22r and are really simple. I guess Oil pressure, Water Temp and voltage? I can do a tach or not.

Thanks.

Sorry if this is so basic but my search didn't turn up to many recommendations.

Jegs sells Autometer and all the stuff you need to hook them up. I've never been a fan of mechanical gauges. I just don't like a little hose running from my engine all the way into the drivers area with hot oil in it. Volt, Oil press, and Water Temp should be enough. Try to put them someplace out of the way of water and dirt but close enough to your line of sight so you don't have to totally look away from driving to see them.

Agree.
I did electric oil and mechanical everything else. I used the autometer guages. I thought I needed a tach. I was wrong. Probably would not waste the money on a tach. In low gear you are screaming so rapidly, your ear will tell you to shift.

when you order the fittings to adapt to metric threads keep in mind BSP. Most of your adapters will be british pipe thread. Not NPT. Also the brass fittings are very weak. I broke 3-4 from overtightening on my temp guage. I would reccomend Snug and see if it leaks then snug a little more if needed.
I found several posts saying the threads pitch was close enough to NPT. My experience says this is not accurate.
If you cannot find the sizes repost and I will get them. Or call autometer direct. There tech line is awesome.
