: Long travel shock set up!
rokcrln 06-26-2002, 07:13 PM Well after a week of gettin to it, I have finished the front set up. Thanks for the help back in the paper built stage when I was posting different styles of small space and long travel set up's. This week end I should have the tranny back in and I will see just how well or not so well it works.
The bottom shocks does most of the extention work (12 1/4") and the small give most of the up travel (4"+ 1" from bottom shocks) for a combined total of 17 1/4" at the shock and not sure yet what it will be at the wheel.
Ok now go ahead and let me know what you all think.

Cheepin 06-26-2002, 07:26 PM So you have 5" of up travel and 11 1/4" of down travel.Kind of one sided.Should keep the tires out of the fenders though.Like to know how it does.Interesting.Blazin:rasta:
jeeper111 06-26-2002, 07:27 PM lotta work but a pretty sweet idea! NICE! Will the suspension design bind before the shocks max out?
rokcrln 06-26-2002, 07:47 PM 111, They may bind before 17 1/4" but I was maxing the 13 1/4" 9000's with stock arms just reworked a bit. The arms now are full custom with johney joints at the top and 12" longer than stock. Also they have a 27* bend in them at the full turn tire location so I can run 38" tires and not rub.
Ok is this a must have?
Not at all, will it help on the trail?
Maybe, maybe not but it is something I wanted to try and can do my self so why not. And if it does not work any better than the last set up (regular hoops and dual shocks) it still looks good and I built it my self.
Gordon 06-26-2002, 09:28 PM and if the show truck guys know anything more shocks look better right? Neat concept on the shocks. I really like the radius arms.
From talking with others who have run similar setups - you may find all those bushings add a lot of slop to the system on the road...
Not sure why you went with double lowe shocks - you could have gone with just one and been fine...
rokcrln 06-26-2002, 09:40 PM I totaly agree, If you look on this site check out "after roll over" ( or close to that) for how much I like "show trucks". I rolled my " " Full on toy but show condition EB and posted pics of it.
Just for the record I am not into show trucks or shock set ups that look show but if this does not work like I intended I feel that it turned out prety cool looking, and will work as good as the last set up!
rokcrln 06-26-2002, 09:44 PM DRM,
I had one before and it was now enough for the street. But you are right it may have slop in the bushings and if that is the case I will make Steel or alum spacers for the top rack. Thanks for the insite that is just what I am looking for. I am not a car builder or anything close to that, I just like seeing how far I can go and melting steel doing it:bounce2: :bounce: :D

synds9 06-26-2002, 10:16 PM i'd really like to see this sometime .. gotta get my bronco running again though.. about a week and a half... :D
rokcrln 06-26-2002, 10:17 PM DRM, this is the same page that got me working on the currect set up. As far as one shock goes Remember it is a 5,500lb EB and with two long shocks I can turn them down to 1 or up to 10 (both on 5) and it is not like I have a shorage of 9000's (10 came on this one and I had 8 from my last one). All I hope for is that it works as good for me as it did on that toy:D
rokcrln 06-26-2002, 10:20 PM Taknelee,
I have the drivers side to remove the stock brkt and paint( thursday) than slap the nv4500 back in and build a tubular skid/tranny mount and I am back rollen!( should be on sunday).
I wil post some total poiser pics on sunday if I get it rollin or it will ba after the 4th at the latest.
WytNkls 06-26-2002, 11:45 PM ABBA from the pbb had/has a similer setup. Seemed to work well. Looks good!

WheelingPiazza 06-27-2002, 03:54 AM I was waiting on rodgers rig to show up..
He gets it and his suspention works awsome.. From what I can tell he has no bind at all..
Scout Dude 06-27-2002, 09:00 AM So, I suppose that you don't want to hear that Rancho now has longer Shocks than the 9012 right?
Actually, I like your design. it looks trick...but it takes a lot of money in shocks to get there...
Eskimo 06-27-2002, 10:07 AM Yeah, but it's only 1" more travel, and he's up at 17"+, so even the 36" long rancho would limit him by 2+"
rokcrln 06-27-2002, 03:01 PM If they have a longer shock that is great. How long? As far as a lot of money in my shock set up I only had to buy three short ones and got the fourth for free (so they tried to tell me $230. ) and the rest come on the rig and I had 10 9012's from my last rig. So is the new shock 16" travel or what. That might work out good for the back! Or I will build the same set up as the front.
Scout Dude 06-27-2002, 03:07 PM Yeah, they just came out with new longer shocks..I dunno the part number but they have about 16" of travel. Rockslut has the 5000's on his front.
rokcrln 06-27-2002, 03:20 PM So if they are 16" travel it would be about 37"+ fully extended and that might be to long with out cutting alot out of the way. Do they come in a 9000?
Eskimo 06-28-2002, 06:35 AM They are 15" travel shocks... go here..
