I am attempting to do some research on how to create a high pinion Dana 44. I have a D44 from a 79 waggy with a driver drop and i am putting it in a CJ with a driver drop. I am under the impression i would need to purshase and install a reverse cut gear set and cut the knuckes off and reweld on the oposite side. I know these are both a bit more techinical than that, but for the most part am i on the right track?

Not even close. If you flip the axle/ cut the knuckles off/ reweld idea the axle will still spin the wrong direction. Backward spiral gears won't fit a standard spiral housing.
All in all, the idea you have sucks. If you're hell bent on a High Pinion D44, find a '78-79 Ford F250.

Not only will that not work I believe that you will have lubrication issues - - I have a high pinion dana 44 for sale with 4.88's and arb front and rear - - 4500 for both or 2500 for front and 2000 for rear. They are set up for a tj but that would be a simple enough mod. Let me know!

Well first off I don't think a 79 Waggy axle is drivers drop. I think and could be wrong that they didn't start with the drivers drop until 1980.
If that is the case then your axle would be a pass drop and would work in your CJ. It would then just be a low pinion instead of a high pinion axle just like your D30 in there now. By the time your find a HP44 from a Ford, pull the old tubes out and press new tubes back in your looking at a lot of money. IMHO you would be better off to buy a center HP44 chunk and then build your axle from there. If you don't care about the HP part then narrow that Waggy axle to fit your CJ. It really isn't that hard. I did a HP44 for my TJ in my garage.

Great info yea that waggy is at the folks place and i am headed there this holiday season to hopefully pull it. I know its a 79 and from what i am now seeing through research your right about the pass side drop.
Thanks and i will give it a shot.
