88 wrangler won't run. I changed the coil. It ran for 5 minutes. I shut it off. Then it wuldn't start again. I changed the coil again. It ran great around the block. let it run for about 7 minute more, and it just quit. No stumble, just stopped.

On the coil it says for breakerless ignition, and " use w/ external resister". The parts guy said that electronic ignitions don't need the external resister. Is it the wrong coil? Is the ignition module bad? Is the pick up coil in th distributer bad?

Any help, thanks.

I'd put my money on the ignition module. I had a similar issue with an 88 i built for m daughter. A module cured the problem.

i was thinking maybe fuel pump but when you said "no stumble" maybe not. when i had the 4.2 it just flat-out stopped running and would start up again. i replaced the ignition module and that fixed it so could be your prob also. i think it was only $60 so maybe worth a try.
