I'm thinking about buying a 6.2 liter for a tow rig...$1500 is my budget which pretty much limits me to a 6.2...

I was thinking I'd get decent fuel economy with it even though the 6.2 isn't the best for power / torque. How well or how poorly would it tow a 18ft trailer and a 4runner??

Thx...and how about that tow rig forum :smokin:

I cant speek for the 6.2, but I can say that without a Turbo its going to be slow going on inclines. I have a 6.9 ford and I get about 14 mpg towing and it pulles flat ground fine 60-65 but going up hills its as slow as a 22r, 4.10's an 38's! :D I tow a 16 ft and an 82 Toy pick up.

had several 80s and 90s 6.2 suburbans they do all right not the best on hills but you can re-gear and change that and not lose too much gas mileage it's a diesel. But definately get it you like getting good mileage while towing. Just might have to hang out in the right lane a little more.

I know pulling horse trailers with our old tired 6.2 Its fine on the road but in the hills you just plan on going 45 to 55 depending..

Get it and tow with it.. Hell add a turbo later.

For $1500 you can't be too picky, and the 6.2L isn't all that bad. There are a couple of problem areas with the 6.2L.

The heads are prone to cracking, the factory glow plug system tends to burn out the plugs, the injector pump has a short lifespan and costs ~$600.

You ain't gonna be spending any $$$ on speeding tickets, but it will pull. You can always swap a Cummins in later.:D

I towed my buddies yota up to the clean-up with his POS 6.2....his rig and trailer are pretty light and I think I coulda jogged up ice house faster than it would pull it. It's 2wd with a turbo 400 and were in 1st gear lots of the way up. Even on hwy 50 we were down to 30 mph a couple times.

I've got a 6.2 with the Banks turbo on it. I haven't pulled my Scout on my trailer yet, but I have pulled a couple of lighter trailers for my mom and sister (one weighed about 5K). Thing is I didn't even notice the trailers behind them when going up I-80 to Colfax. My burb drove just like it did without a trailer (about 50-55 on the steepest parts). I'd say get it.
