Going to Moab next week and I have two tires to choose from.
1. 36x12.5 Swamper TSL's
2. 35x12.5 BFG M/T's
I'm looking at a 1200 Mile drive each way.
Which tires would work best in Moab?

I'm gonna be in Moab next week also, along with about 50 + other XJ's from my club. Your tire choice is a hard one. The only trails that I think would require the higher clearance and more aggresive tread of the swampers are upper helldorado and proving grounds. Everywhere else you'd be fine with the much quieter mt's. Either one of those tires is going to give you the same amount of grip on the slickrock. I've run both of those out there, and don't really notice any difference in traction.

Both will do fine. But for mileage and tread wear for the drive I would go with the BFG's.

vova, i'd run the mt's, especially with your long drive. they will wear much better on the pavement, and seem to stick at least as well on slickrock as swampers(from what i've seen). if you were trailerin, i'd prob run the tsl's, but with the drive out there, i'd say the mt's are the better choice.....brad

Honestly I would drive out on the BFG's with swampers in the back, stay in a hotel or one of the cabins and use the BFG's as a coffea table for the duration of your stay. The swampers are just noticably softer rubber and I thing that will make a diffarance on the harder stuff

Go with the BFG's with that long of a haul. I drove on my TSL's in June to Moab and it was nothing short of torture. Hotter than hell, no AC, and just plain noisy with all the windows down doing 75. They wore okay, but if I were to do it again, I'd drive on AT's and throw the TSL's in the back.

BUT, those fawkers were awsome on the rocks...loved every minute of it.

I would imagine that he already has the two choices he posted, not that he is going to just go buy a set for a trip to Moab.

What! What kind of wheeler wouldn't buy tires just to go to Moab?

I ran 35" BFG MT's for a few years down there and went most anywhere I wanted.

Since my ned is bobbed and reverse bobbed there is no way to get the tires in the back <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

Trust me.

They are the only tire I would even think of, unless you want 38's - 40 inchers (which I do)

I did see the new 37" BFG's in farmington, and If they come out soon enough, I'll get those!
