This looks like a problem area, the mirror will hit the tube as you open the door.

I like the way it was done, becuause with the doors off you have no problems!!:D

wanderingwillys

It opens fine... It doesn't look that way but mine (green one in the middle) has no issues (driverside mirror) and is even tighter to the door than Dan's is... Also the doors do very little for the integrity of the unibody so it really makes no difference if you run them or not...

Uh.. Just a question:

Is that Moab Rim?

And if so, how exactly did you roll on Moab rim?

JS-Economos,

That is not a blown bead...snicker snicker..he is running a dually rear with just single tires on the inside. The rim acts as a training wheel to help prevent rollovers...snicker snicker. if you have more of this  you will be more able to see it better! LOL John

I'll look for more pics tomorrow, its a 94 zj limited with sway-a-way coil overs, dana 60s, and 37" boggers..... it was built by travis smith and rocket city offroad for the Eastern Rockcrawling competitions. They placed 6th overall in the competition...

Here (http://community.webshots.com/user/tands1000) is a build up of the ZJ.

That ZJ now sits on 39" TSLs and 44" TSLs (depending on what he wants to run). The new owner is a member by the name of ROKN ZJ.

Hey parrothead nice work on the rig and exo.
But, the only thing i question is the cage structure on the roof, it all seems to be joined at one point, just behind the sunroof. I just think that might be of concern regarding a single failure point...

Well, do you have any opinions on what i said about the tube meeting at one point?
Or anyone else for that matter.....

Well in my opinion:
His cage will hold up just fine.
1. because it is called triangulation.
2. because he has an internal cage tied to the external
3. The guy that built it is: "Wanderingwillys" not parrothead
4. "parrothead" was just posting the pics.

The tan one on the rocks is Dan Starc's; also the same truck on its lid like a dead roach... He didn't have any internal tirangulation or bracing in the roll over pic and all that happend was he picked up a few dents at the roof line when the cage shifted and hit the body- that is what brought about the internal bracing...

Mine is the true poser shot in my driveway (olive drab w/ tiny boggers) - I even went wheeling yesterday :flipoff2: (I swear its true :D)

I took a good long look at Dan's in person and shamelessly copied what I liked and changed what I thought would make it better based on his experiences...

As for the other two I don't know'em or anything about them so no comment

I am sick and tired of my sh!tty turning radius with my hydro assist system so I am going to go full hydro - just need to get the orbital and misc fittings to go from 3/4 o-ring to my pump and -6 JIC lines...

Otherwise I would be game even with my system as it is - just need to find the longest pitman arm I can fit - ~6.75 to 7" center to center (and lots of drop)

I will keep an eye on the SNORT board - see ya,

Matt

Dan's just has a pair of tubes that pierce the roof just behind the sunroof as noted and are diagonally run to the area where the rear seat used to live; like this: / \ ....

On mine I built a mild interior cage and then pierced the roof in 8 places to connect to the halo... So I retained the rear seat and I am able to use the majority of the cargo area for large stuff...

shes not done yet, still have quite a few bars to add , angled bars in the door ways like the zj in this thread, bar going across the back of the front seats, bar below the very rear window, bar above the windshield wipers. ill also be building a rear swingout that ties to both sides of the cage . it survived a roll on the highway at about 35-40mph and held up very nicely , a lil tweaked due to only having one cross bar on the roof above the windshield but nothing i cant fix

Yeah, a little bigger. Hacked up the fenders some more, lobbed off the rear quarter panels, ripped out the carpet interior and head liner, 5" front, 6" rear on scrawney 33s. Trying to save money for full width HP44/ D60 and 37s.:D

BTW, who are you? :flipoff2:

Didn't that orange one that AZFJ posts pics of used to have some slick armoured quarters - what happened? destroy those already or were they just banging on everything...

I don't get the idea of pulling the doors of an XJ and then welding tube across that space  Just do a scrambler if you want a long wheelbase open air jeep - or heaven forbid a toyota :flipoff2:

The whole point of an XJ is that it is a closed cab rig - half doors fine, no doors ok (just don't fawk up the sill to bad dragging it past stuff) but why eliminate the doors and then make it so you can put them back ever...

Apparently you guys don't get much slop or snow down there :p But I like being able to roll the widows up and crank the heat (ok I am done bitchin - to each his own ;) )

Matt

That said my next trail rig won't even have a w/s - I am going from the aquarium that is my XJ to a pile of tube...

Edit: Oh yeah I forgot to add I flopped mine last week or so ago and it did fine - just busted the sunroof (spare pitman popped out of the center console) and quarter glass (funny bulge in the rocks)

Just pullin your leg ;) Some times I wish I went your route - but that is my point - either chop it all off for weight savings and run a normal cage or keep the sheet and glass and run an exo; any thing in between just won't work as well as it could...

Put that in your pipe and smoke it (guess I wasn't done bitchin yet :flipoff2: )

If you are talking about mine - if so it is WWII olive drab but pictures are pictures...

The cage weights about 350lbs and the rig sits between 4800 and 5100 lbs depending on what trail gear I have in it...

190ft to be exact :flipoff2:

I was suprised seeing as though half of my damage came from the contents of the stinkin center console I thought would stay latched - let see if I can break a lexan sunroof

That quarter window was also a little suprising but not when I looked where the jeep fell (big 2ft bulge in the rock face...)

Maybe I will try and power out of it next time since the cage held up so well :flipoff2:

Down here its for the AC. 110 degrees and humidity sucks. I like having the option of seating 4 in comfort and having a place to keep the supplies safe and dry.

Full tube rig would be nice but I think I will stick to a SUV. I dont think I would do an XJ again though. A used Suzuki Vitara looks very appealing. Small, lightweight, peppy engine and cheap.
Box the frame, swap in full width D44 and 9", 37-38" tires, extend the wheel base, custom suspension, dual tcases, exo cage, replace all the glass with lexan and you would have a bad ass and light weight little aquarium.
