I was just going to save up and get an Eaton but someone posted a link to a 10% Lowes coupon and I got to messing around on their sight and found this.

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=137603-71025-KLA4508065&lpage=none

Does anyone have any experience with it? I'll be doing pretty much everything to build a rig except paint with it.

I just got that one. Haven't hooked it up yet. Hopefully this week.

how about posting the link to that lowes coupon, I've got an oil-less kobalt compressor now and plannin on gettin the 60 gallon unit here shortly. No complaints with the oil-less unit now other than the rinking in my ear, just need something bigger

I have the $399 model that I bought as a get me by until I finish rebuilding my old yellow monster. So far, it's performed quietly and flawlessly. Mostly air tool use so far, with a little sandblasting here and there. We'll see how it holds up to the paint gun this spring.

As for the eaton compressors, a good friend of mine just sent what was left of his second pump off to the scrap yard. I wish I'd taken some pics when I saw it. The piston put a hole in the side of the block (you know, that stuff they say never happens on their site). That was the replacement for the first pump that failed. Based on what I saw (not heard), I could never recommend them to anyone...

I've got the 60 gallon model. After 3 months its starting to spit oil. I don't know how much is normal though. If it gets any worse, I am taking it back for a replacement.

Keep us updated. If it's decent, I'll gladly pay half the price of an Eaton.

I did a bunch of looking before buying this compressor. I spoke with matt at Eaton numerous times. I "almost" ordered his 3cyl. single stage compressor.
This Kobalt compressor has cast iron cylinders, runs at 1150rpm (much lower than the other "cheap" compressors), the motor specs match up with the claimed 14.1cfm @ 90psi, a 3 year warranty, etc. It was just too hard to say no for the price.

I have heard the Kobalt is the same as the Harbor Freight US General compressor. Take a look at those as they appear to be US made with Emerson motors last time I looked. Might be able to beat the Lowes price even further.

I run the 80 gal kobalt and it works fine for my needs. I had heard that up to 60 gal kobalt was produced by CH but the 80 gallon wasn't.

Anyway its a nice compressor for the price.

The tag on the side of my 60 gallon says Coleman...

I also bought the 80 gal. 175 psi. two stage unit a little over a year ago. I had a 20% off coupon, and I got it for $638.00. I had a leaking unloader valve about a week after I bought it. They sent me one out in the mail right away with no hassles whatsoever. I've been running the shit out of it using a sandblaster and a beadblasting cabinet. It's been working great, and it's pretty quiet for the size. For me, it was hard to beat for the price and they seem to have great customer service.

So far so good on the 80 gal. 4.5hp model. It's louder than I'de like though. I'll probably move it outside.
Rocks for keeping up with my DA though.:D
