planning a swap....quick question
i have heard, and am wondering if it's true, that a Dana 300 case will bolt up to a SM465 4x4 trany w/ the stock np208 adaptor?
what is nedded to mate these.....new Main shaft? any advice?
(oh this will be going behind a 4.3L)
thanks in advance

I used an AA adapter. They have two, a 7" one that uses a spud shaft and a 3.5" one that uses a new input gear in the D300 that accepts the output from the tranny.
I used the 7" one to make it easier to clock.

3.5" one requires you to cut the output shaft on the 465. I clocked mine on the 3.5" apdaptor.

I didn't have to do that, but I bought mine used (tranny & adapter). I didn't want to modify the shifter mechanism like you did, but that's an option, of course. The other benefit was where it lined up in the tub, mines under the seats more so there's more room.
Oh crap. If mine's been cut, and I'm trying to run the longer one...crap crap ca-rap.

Confirmed with AA, you have to trim the back of the SM465 to be 2.8" long with the 3.5" kit, and trim it 3.2" long with the 7" long adapter.
Oh well, maybe I'll stick some bubble gum in there to make up the difference.
Thanks, Jim, I never would have known...
