I was thinking something along the same lines. How hard would it be to put a driver drop front axle in a cruiser? Are they around the same full size (69")? Can you just cut down 4.5" off the long side and keep your spring mounts?

I'm a planner Grog ;) I have NO idea when i might finally shut up and buy:D
I do rather enjoy seeking them out and studying the different drivetrains and year changes. I have come VERY close to purchasing on three different occasions and they all fell through due to ROT & hokey modifications:rasta:
no hurry :D I'll just continue to drive the 60 (and work on it) until the time is right. I've changed my personal preference in 40's a few times since I started looking but that really hasn't kept me from purchasing one.
I'm going to look at the "TEX" model (see special edition FJ40's thread) some time this week, I hope to take some pics for you guys.
Cruise on.....

Looks pretty clean. Is it a np435 or t18a tranny? Either of those would be good options. Is it mated to a stock t/c? I have a 302, with a t18a. I like it.

i built my old patrol with ford drivetrain, i like the 302 not only because its a good strong motor, but its also the smallest physically of all the v-8's even chevy 283-305's which makes for a nice transplant in many small engine bays,(patrol)..
i think though the main reason for so many chevy swaps is just the sheer plentifull amount of anftermarket and off the shelf parts. shure the ford engines have a good following and great speed parts, but nothing like a good 'ol chevy 350. not to mention i think there are more used parts around, you have chevy AND gmc, plus dodge axles have the same pass, side drop. and you can literally put almost any tranny behind a chevy small block. just my observation.
