well i got an 84' 1/2ton stepside reg cab with 52" rears and i wanna do 63's in the back for ultimate flex. was thinking a diy4x flip shackle and maybe a dropped hanger, but i have dual tanks how can i accomplish fitting 63's?

Ladies & Gentlemen...yes, it is Tuesday.

:shaking: what's your type of wheeling, ie where do you want to use this poser flex? size tires? why a dropped hanger? if you're planning to use said "ultimate flex," this to me means you're going to be running some pretty difficult trails, so my adivce is get rid of the dual tanks since they run the change of getting punctured. get a red star, there's plenty of tech on the 63/64s.

well i will be doin rock crawlin and some mud with it and i want to definately flex well and ride well, ive heard of a few inexpensive ways to lift these trucks and i figured a shackle flip and some longer flat springs would be great if i could clear some 35's-37's, not too sure bout the front leafs though, just lifted 52 or 56's i guess? any drop brackets for the front?

I thought you rock crawler guys were all about doing things the right way? When did drop brackets for lift become the right way. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesnt that put one more thing low to get snagged on a rock ?:shaking:

Here what ya do. Look up the info to do your 63 swap in the rear...
take your stock 52's and hang them up front with the diy4x kit...
Do Zero rates front and rear to stretch your base a little and give ya an extra inch.

That setup should yield 5-6" of lift. If your serious about need that much flex you should be chiming in saying thats too much lift how can I do it and only get 4in of lift...

Yull clear 37's easy, especially 12.5's

okay the diy4x kit to hang 52's in front is the front shackle eye hanger right? or is it more expensive and involved then that?

you will need to remove the saddle tanks and relocate the front spring hangers. Do the shackle flip and run a 4 inch shackle.

agreed. i'm doing 52s, zero rates, & 7 1/4 shackle for the front and 3" 64s, ORD flip & shackles for the rear. I'm at about 6"...if I could I'd try to keep it at 4", so I'm open to suggetions on doing so to clear my 44s :flipoff2:

alright so what would be a good idea for flex besides doin 63's? i like my saddle tanks for long wheelin trips and such they come in handy

You could do 56's in the rear and use the spring offset to give you more wheelbase. But to get good flex with a rockcrawler that works well your realy should go with coilovers.

You are going to pop a hole in them...they are VERY vonerable. Switch to a raised burb tank to get capacity cheep.

They do make large 30 and 40 gallon fuel cells that you could put in your bed, get the fuel tanks up out of the drink.

alright well im just wondering what kind of combination i could do with a drop shackle so i don't have to move the front hanger for 63" rears?

As newb myself your getting really close to the fire. You keep asking questions without searching it will get hot.

Lol theres no way in hell your properly putting 63's on a truck that came stock with 52's without moving the hangars... Thats like trying to stick a 6'8" giant into a VW bug...

Heres my suggestion. Buy a shackle flip, 4in front springs and 35 MT/r's thats all you need.

well i'll throw my 52's in front and possibly use some extended hangers for the rear of the front leafs. then the back would a drop shackle and an ORD extended shackle clear some 56's?

whatta numb nut...

yea, throw those 52's in front so you can clear some 56's?

you're gonna need more than just 52" springs in front to clear 56" tires.

Man, what you're asking about is about as plane jane as swapping a shock. Do a little research. It's all here.

...and I thought I asked some stupid questions....

just do a ord shackle flip 4'' springs up front. if your crawling you dont really care how it looks right? i can run 40s on my k5 with the help a sawsall. your getting to technical. if its your first rig start simple find what works for ya and if it doesnt either beat it with a hammer tell it does.

did you relocate the front hangers....?

and in respect to the thread there is not a whole lot of information on 63" swaps. yes, 52" and 56" has alot on inofrmation to be found, but give the guy a break on 63's and quit whining...i hate to wheel with you guys...thats why ck5 is actually decent

He is talking about 56" springs :shaking:
He wants to clear 35-37" tires...

If you want to run 52's up front, 63's in the rear, big tires and keep it real low you need to do something like this.:D

And yes, I used one of these....a lot.

completely agree. the only real significant advantage is approach/departure angles.

that's such a bad-ass saw.
longest cutting stroke, fastest strokes per minute, quick disconnect cord, fastest cutting saw period.

this saw makes this thread better.

p.s. Dear milwaukee sales representative, please send me free shwag for X-mas. my Milwaukee garbage can isn't really keeping me satisfied. maybe a shop stool, or some hats and shirts.

to the OP.. Nobody can tell you what you want to do with the rig. you need to figure out how to be less a newbie and more experienced. go get a wrench and start turning bolts. If you live through it, you might have learned something.

the search function is a great thing. learn it. live it. love it.
