hey guys and gals im lookin for a new project truck and am considering an isuzu rodeo or even better for the size, an amigo. It will be SAS'd and have stretched wheelbase with a 44/60 or 60/60 combo with 38"ers so axle strength isnt an issue, but i want to keep the engine, trans, and do something special with the tcase (plan on a custom doubler to a dana 300) so the chain wont be there if its a chain driven case. I want the trans to be a manual also. Anyway im just wondering how stout the components in these trucks are, especially the amigo? Does it have a mechanically shifted tcase like the rodeo? What is the manual trans like? Anybody give me some gear ratios in the tcase and trans also? Any and all info would be great! Thanks alot everybody!

EDIT: P.S.---Do the amigos have any head/leg room in them at all? Im on the skinny side but am 6'7" (mostly legs) so that creates a problem with alot of cars. I could also move the seat back if i have to but of course id rather work on other stuff. Let me know what y'all think. Thanks everyone!

I'm 6' and have plenty of room and still can move the seat back.
The t-case is geardriven and Independant still has lo gears for them. The 5spd is very stout and lot's of folks have abused them w/sas'd rigs aswell.
Only use motor oil in it and the tcase, very important.
The engines aren't power houses since most are 2.6 4cyl.
Search on here and 4x4wire for sas'd stretched amigo's there are more than a few done.

What are the stock gear ratios in the trans and tcase? Also, are these things fuel injected or carb'd? Thanks!

check out the faq's on matt's site.
I t-case is about 2:1 with a 3.07 lo-gear availible or you can double up the stock cases with some fab work, search dual tcases here.Several folks are running 38's with no strentgh issues on the tranny or tcase.......but you need gearing to get the 4cy. to move it.
Not sure on tranny don't have a manual here,I know 2nd gear on the 5sp. is lower than 1st on the auto.
Some have gm v6's either 2.8 or 3.1 with TBI, 3.4 is a viable swap, there is info here and on the planetisuzu and 4x4wire about this.
The 2.6 is FI,it runs good once you make sure all the vacumn lines are good and keep the valves adjusted.
the 2.6 tranny bellhousing is different than the 60* GM bellhousing tho'

the MUA5 backed behind the 2.6L is pretty well built,
I own a 94' Amigo 4wd.
my only Issue with Isuzu and the tranny is the Clutch.
i'd suggest putting a Center-force in it.
as for the 2.6L I would rather have a bigger motor,
I'm currently thinking of swapping a 3.2L from a Rodeo in it.
good luck!

no one has mentioned the tranny/t-case is an integrated one, not married. doublers can be done, just not as common with the mua5

1st gen Amigo stock t-case is 2.24:1, with Tera 3.07:1 gears available as mentioned earlier.
Any manual 4wd Amigo or Rodeo came with the MUA-5 tranny with integrated t-case.
One of my college roomates was 6'5" and didn't have issues riding in my Amigo. Where it may be more of an issue is foot room. I'm guessing at 6'7 you probably have a decent shoe size. I only wear 10's; but have wide feet and IMHO the Amigo would benefit from more room in the pedal area. Especially between the accerlator and tranny tunnel.
