I got a great deal on a used XMT 304 CC/CV machine. All I got was just the power source. After looking around, I've decided to get a reconditioned S-75D wire feeder. I just want to check with you guys to make sure that the wire feeder will have no compatibility problems with the XMT 304 using single phase power. Thanks.

This machine will work with single phase power. We use them at work and are good units. I recommend not going with the S-75D feeder, we have nothing but feeding problems in a production welding atmosphere. We have had our miller techs and they basically said that the feeder is junk. I do recommend going with the S-74D which is the older style and work much better.

Well, this definitely isn't for a production environment :). I was going for the reconditioned S-75D because it is cheaper. A new S-74D or S-74S would be too much money. Maybe I'll just get the S22A.

At work we've got two D-74DX feeders, only 4-5 months old. Working good so far. One's probably got pretty close to 2k lbs of wire through it. Most our feeders are single and dual 60 series. As best I know they're reliable, I've never had an issue with them.

If it has the digital meters, they're a real pain to adjust if the display breaks. Knob just spins forever, and without the digital meter you're setting wire speed either by the speed of your pants or timing and measuring.

Of the S-22's I've used (the two roller model), they're real picky at feeding cored wire. Need a knurled drive wheel. The four roll 60 series I've used have all fed core wire just fine with smooth drive wheels.

I have used the 22A wire feeds for years with good results, however we did switch to knurled rollers and started to have problems with wearing out contact tips and liners too soon. The knurling on the rollers indents the wire which causes the wire to act almost like a saw blade and cause premature wear on everything it rubs up against. We have since switched back to smooth rollers and haven't had problems.

Any problems with the four roller 24A?
