: So, I have these Ford Shock towers on will call...

And I am wondering how they will fit...

I have searched a little (Don't have much time today) and Hooper was the only one that I saw running them but they are cut way down and his bottom mount hangs below the axle tube. My lower mounts are set on top of the tube, so I will need a tall upper mount. Do these towers stick up too high? Anyone else running these things on an 80 or 800? I'm down to the wire on my Scout and can't afford to be fabbing new shock mounts...

TIA,
Joel

Actually, it is flush with the bottom of tha axle, or even a hair above it. But, I agree, they are too low. I have a new set of swivel shock mounts coming, someday... but they are not here yet... i'd like to have them by roundup though.

I could raise the lower end of my shocks to the middle of my axle and still have shock left, if that is your concern. I am not using all my shock at this time, at either compression or droop.

You could also weld a plate onto the bracket, where I cut it, and have the plate descend lower, then weld/bolt the plate to the frame. That would allow you to raise your tower higher, which is what I think you want to do?

Weld flat plate to the backside of the cut on the tower. Should be plenty strong for a shock...

Well, too late now..used my lunch hour to pick them up as well as my grade 8's for my new CV rear d-line...

Believe it or not, but I used to almost max out my 9012's on the front...Now I have these less-flexier springs (44044's) but I also have this heavy pig (d60) pulling down so I might have evened out my travel again.

To everyone else with the usual "I'll look at his post but not reply":flipoff2:

OK, SD I have no pertinent information on this subject, but here is my reply:flipoff2:

BTW, I used wagoneer shock mounts

Don't even know what shock number I have, or what the travel is on them. I know they don't limit me, and that is all I really care about ;)

F-250 shock mounts. No inner fenders, no problem. I may actually fab some longer mounts?

I used f350 shock towers on my SII. I didn't cut them like Hooper. I posted pics not too long ago...I think it was title "finished my SOA" or something like that.

Anyway, I welded the shock towers to the frame at the bottom part of the tower, instead of cutting them like Hooper. I had to cut the inner fenderwells all the way to the top, but no big deal. The real PIA is that the frame is curved inward where the original shock mount was, so I built that up with some metal so that the shock tower wouldn't lay back so far into the engine bay.

On the driver side, you will have to deal with the brake proportioning valve ( I think that's what it is ). it is bolted to the fender and needs to be moved ( atleast on mine it is ).

If you still want, I can get some pictures of the setup, up close. I am gonna be working on it some more this evening with it on the ramp.

Thanks for the reply..mine is an 80 so I don't some of the limitations that you have/had. I will keep an eye out for the tire to shock clearance..I saw yours:eek: :D

just fab your own, don't be buying someone elses to cut up and weld on, 1 1/2 square tubing and cut some 1/4 plate to box in the angle you need from frame , drill hole in top for shock stud, easy:D sorry about pic

That works, but there is a lot to be said for double shear.

Oh yeah they work...they work darn well too. I've used them on every SOA job in here.

Okay..there on and the fit great. I angled them back just a bit instead of the straight-up & Down approach.

Hark--Don't have time to make my own...trying to wheel this thing tomorrow..btw, I have made everything else..it's nice to buy something pre-made every Once in a while;)

Can't remember. Do you have a RS, SOA, or lift springs?

If you angled them back, that is, the top is farther toward the rear than the front, you will have some problems. My axle moves to the rear under compression (Shackle forward, flat springs). I put mine on straight up and down. The axle moves rearward enough that thetop of the shock rubs on the spring mount. I should have angled mine backward just a little.

Not a big issue, but I do get a little rubbing of shock and tower. So far, only enough to take the paint off.

All of the above...

and my axle is 6" wider than stock..I don't think that I'll have to worry about it hitting.

Joe...no, it's not running..I am going to have it towed through the 'Con:flipoff2:

When's the wedding, you better get that sheet wrapped up before the wife and kids show up on scene.

Wedding- Sept.

And kids? that's a low blow...don't mention those money hogging things.:p

Alright, here's what I have left in order to actually wheel it this weekend:

Reinstall P/S cooler
check torque on beadlocks
grease kingpins, draglink, & tierod
install new CV d-line
Finish welds on lower cage portion
fab pseudo dash to hold a few switches
verify that the electric fan works (Wiring and such)
re-route fuel line for the other tank.
bolt on front clip
check torque on lugnuts.

and last...print out this post since it now has my revised list:D
