In my particular case, I've discovered that I should only use a rifle to fight my way to a pistol.

AR-15 vs. Glock video (http://home.off-road.com/~mithrandir/idpa/ar15_vs_glock.wmv)
I've fired probably 500 rounds through long guns in my life (less than a hundred with the AR platform). I go through 1,000 per month in pistols. It shows.
A buddy and I were messing around after our IDPA match on Saturday with his Colt AR015, and I shot a couple of short videos.
Here's a short description of what you're seeing in the video:
2 of us running through the stage in the match. All shots from cover, reload as necessary (starting load is 10+!), 2 shots on each target, etc...
Then both of us ran it with the AR. We shot the first part on-the-move, did the worlds slowest speed-loads, and then shot the last 3 targets around the side of the barricade, instead of through the window. We also moved the targets back.
Finally, both of us re-shooting with 1 round per target. No reload. We shot it this way with both the AR and a pistol. (he's competes with a stock Glock 19, I'm using a G34 with some junk in it).
One-shot-per-target stage times:
12.94, 8 points down (Tad with AR-15)
7.07, 6 points down (Tad with Glock 19)
13.07, 10 points down (Me with AR-15)
7.17, 4 points down (Me with Glock 34)
That's all. I really need to shoot a long gun more than twice a year. :D
