: Late model steering on a CJ3A
Grendel 06-27-2002, 10:12 AM Alrighty,
I searched. I want to convert a buddies CJ3A to a saginaw style steering set up. Is there a linkage set up that will bolt onto the knuckles? It's not a wheeling machine, so stock CJ-5 stuff would work. I have an AGR box from my YJ we're going to install. That box and the stock model 25 knuckles, what else do I use?
4Bangler 06-27-2002, 10:26 AM Depending on what existing linkage he's got, you may be able to reuse the stock stuff from the bell crank to the axle. If it's got a straight tie rod from knuckle to knucke and a draglink from the pass kuckle to the bellcrank, you should be able to use that, if it's got that nasty double draglink no tierod setup toss all that in the dumper and use '72-79 CJ stuff, or Jeepster Commando, they had Saginaw steering before the CJ's did, and with the Dana 27 front axle.
The linkage isn't the hard part, the steering shaft is, especially if you want to retain the stock column. Advance Adapters has some good info on this stuff, too bad they're a bunch of tools.
Grendel 06-27-2002, 10:46 AM Well, the steering column is going out the window, too. We're swapping in a V-6 as well.
Aggro 06-27-2002, 11:18 AM I have a stock tie rod and drag link, you are welcome to have. It came from a dana 27 front.

I would happily grab that. How can I get it senoir Aggro?
4Bangler 06-27-2002, 11:45 AM Aw, you're ditching the stock column? Damn, you're taking all the charm out of that old girl, you may as well swap in an auto tranny while you're at it, and hell, maybe even driver's side airbags and heated mirrors. The V6 is a good swap, Buick? please say Buick.
Grendel 06-27-2002, 11:55 AM Yep. Using a 225 Oddfire V-6 and T-98 transmission with a T-18 and Warn OD.

How much charm is there in a black tube strapped to the dash???hey, that's what this place is all about, out with the old and weak, and in with the new heavy-duty:flipoff2:

Heck, i am already most of the way there.
4Bangler 06-27-2002, 12:06 PM Yeah, but real Jeeps have a key in the dash, or no key at all, and I just like the feal of a big 'ol steering wheel on a column that goes straight down through the floor. Oh yeah, and manual or vacuum wipers, I like them too, that stuff is cool. Plus, most flatfender steering column brackets can be used as a bottle opener.
