: metal chunks in my oil pan

Dropped my pan today and found that the bottom of one piston lost about a 1/4"x3/8" chunk. What could have caused this and does this necessarily mean rebuild time?

"bottom" ie: skirt?
i would hazard a guess piston slap.
caused by either out of round bore (excessively worn rings)
or shagged con rod bearings/wrist pin tolerances?

does it burn a lot of oil? make rattly knocking and pinging noises?
sometimes piston slap can be mistaken for knocking from too high compression/too low octane fuel, too high gear/too low speed.

this just all i can think of.:(

aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.......yes! I hate to hear the sound of that. Looks like it rebuild time for ya. That is the same thing that happend to me it was the #3 piston skirt. It sucks when that happens. But if I were you I wouldn't rebuild the motor just put in a 1.6 or a bigger motor of some kind. I rebuilt mine because it was a daly driver. Just to warn ya do not get your parts from Asian Auto of Az if your in a hurry. He screwed me for about a month and a half and mine was a daily driver. he told me the parts would be ther with in a week and a half and it took more like a month and a half!!. But that is my .20 on them.

Good luck to you. The motors are not that bad to rebuild.

BTDT on # 3 cylinder. Piston slap caused by worn rigs caused by fawking dust from one of those fawking "family get-together" runs where you spend the entire fawking day driving around on fawking dirt fawking roads eating fawking dust from the other fawking rigs...  When I got home, my K&N was fully fawking plugged...

Anyhoo, its really quite simple to rebuild these motors. Just get a FSM and take your time...:) Good luck!!!

Thanks for the great news. My $400 bargain truck doesn't seem so good now. Options: 1. What's a good source and price for a rebuild kit? 2. what vehicles can I look for that have the (carb) 1.6? 3. maybe just part it out......

Well I really like dealing with Trail Tough. Any time I had a question they take the time to stop what theya re doing and give ther full attention to me. There parts get to you when they are suppose to and they dont screw around. If I were you and if it's not your daily driver I would try to find a bigger motor to swap in. I am not sure what ones to look for that you would have to do a SEARCH on.............Good luck :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
