: Sm465/NP205
Babymoot 12-13-2007, 05:43 PM I've searched and cant find and exact answer. But anyway i have a SM465 mated to a NP205 chevy ofcourse. Its 10 spline output on the tranny and 10 input on the Tcase and also 10 front output. I know i can swap ford front outputs but can i just swap my mainshaft to a 32 spline and swap my input to a 32 spline and get rid of the coupler.? Its the 8 bolt 205 by the way. Thanks

so.... what do you want to do?
the rear output is already a 32 spline output.
the front input gear is a 10 spline shaft. if you want a 32 spline shaft, you have to install a 32 spline shaft.
if you want a front output that has 32 splines, then get one and install it.
if you go 32 spline front INPUT, you WILL need to machine the case to fit the big bearing.
trkklr77 12-13-2007, 09:37 PM on top of tht you will have to completely disassemble your 465 to install the 32spl out put.

lol.. forgot about that...
dont forget to change cases, and adapters too, while youre at it.
the 10 spline case is the racetrack case... not the roundfaced case.
search some of my posts for pics of the cases.
KWTMECH 12-14-2007, 10:47 AM I am currently working with Parts Mike along with Mike partridge of Advance Adaptors in coupling up the 465 and the 205 directly with 32 spline using the round face 205 and a 465/300 adaptor. Waiting for the custom 465 shaft that AA is in the process of making. So if you want more info, contact Parts Mike on an eta.

Any idea how much $$$ that custom 465 mainshaft is going to run?
Last year, I was working on mating a GM 32-spline input 203 range box to my IH T-19 trans. I fabbed up my own adapter out of a block of 6061-T6 with my router and a radial arm saw :flipoff2: and got that done. I sent the T-19 mainshaft out and had the 6-spline end cut off and a piece of 32-spline shaft inertia welded onto the mainshaft at the correct length for my setup.
Just wondering what a custom mainshaft costs compared to my inertia welded modified mainshaft.

i would guess this combo is considerable shorter than the regular 32 spline 465?

A lot shorter. I think the 465/300 adaptor is about 3'' thick? They were going to eliminate the thread on retaining nut and go with a lock collar. The round pattern 205 would also need the shorter input.

I was gonna have a shaft inertia welded about 3 months ago. Then I was talking to Mike Monahan about what I was building, then one thing led to another................Don't know about price yet. Talk was also involved about making the splines about 4-5'' long so if somebody wanted to couple to something else like maybe a 203?
Edit... If there are a bunch of people interested, contact Mike at Parts Mike and let him know. It may affect price if there are enough interested .....ya know the quantity thing.
Babymoot 12-14-2007, 02:26 PM I know i have to take both of them completely apart....im not a retard. That wasn't the question. The question was can i just buy a 32 spline main shaft for the tranny and can i buy the 32 spline input and will it bolt together. Ok what i want to is get rid of the 10 spline mainshaft/coupler/10 spline input and also the get rid of the 10 spline front output. The front output is easy that i know i can put a ford 32 spline front output and be done. But the real problem is the coupler. All i want to know is can i bolt it together with a 32 spline mainshaft and input. Now i would think the 32 spline main shaft would have to be longer if your getting rid of the coupler. Is this correct or no? I havent heard a solid answer on this.

The 32 spline setup is considerably longer overall than the 10 spline, so you need the oe adapter to make it work.

you would be mo ney ahead to get the assembly out of an 87 or later 1 ton.
thats what it all came in with a 32 spline setup. then you could simply put the 32 spline front output shaft in it.

That may very well be possible with the new shaft
