I have a D44 in the front of my FJ40 and want to go to a D60. It is 62 in wide so it is not stock length. It does sit on the stock spring pirch locations. Where do L.C. guys go to get D60 fronts that fit this mold? I am in Northern California.

You need to out board your spring pirches and use a Dodge or chevy Dana 60

As above or you need to custom cut a d60.

I think you can take 5" off a chevy and relocate the driverside spring perch to match that of the cruiser. You would get a 64" front end.

I did a Dodge D60. I lopped ~5" off the driverside. I cut the stock driverside spring perch off. I then welded a new perch at stock FJ40 spring perch width. My dodge started at 65". So after all the work, I ended up with 60".

Hardest part of all of that is getting the inner C off and on. I used a sawzal to cut the tube out of the inner C. I sanded the shit out of the axle before getting the inner C back on. I took the axle to a welding shop to have them burn it on. $20 for peace of mind is small price. 110V welder I had at the time wasn't up for that :p

Like said above.....if you want to keep your spring mounts where they are now, you will have to cut the axle. My front spring spacing is 27.5" so I took my D60 to Sean at Rivercity Diff and had him narrow my axle housing and shorten my long side axle shaft. This was on a Chevy D60. I think he removed 4" so I ended up with an axle about 64" wide. If you want a different width, you may have to narrow both sides and then get custom inners. If you are serious about doing this, I would contact Sean. You won't be disappointed.

any of you guys that have done this had any problems with the front driveshaft hitting the side of the tranny ? I was looking at this a while back and it looked like the driveshaft would get really close to the side of my sm420.

Depends what shaft...
I run full width 60s and to clear the tranny I run a 1410 On the diff side and a yota shaft on the Tcase for more angle and a smaller tube. Clears the frame and a 4L60E which has a wider bottom than the buldge on a 420

My narrowed 60 clears my 700R$ no problem, but I am running an atlas. It was much closer to my TH350/205..Jesse's rock crawler HD d-line. My drivetrain is also offset to the driver's side 2".

Is your drivetrain offset?

I am still running the stock 2F motor and an SM420 and Atlas. I don't have any issues with drivelines and I am using Jesse's 1410s at both ends. However, my Atlas is clocked all the way down and the side of my SM420 has been ground down since I used to run the 3 speed Cruiser t-case. I do believe the stock 2F motor is offset some to the driver's side so that may also help the driveshaft clear the tranny.

I am running a dana 300 behind the 420. I also ground the side of the tranny down when I ran the cruiser 3 spd tcase. I dont know if the front output is as far away from the tranny as on an Atlas .

Sorry for the hijack.

No, the footprint on the atlas is larger than a D300 and a np205. Mine is clocked at 5 degrees (only option for my application)

check the build in my sig line .......4.5 inches off the long side yields a perfect 27 " (cruiser width) perch width......64.5 " wms
