I know its summertime, but during the "off" season who here rides at night? What lighting system do you use? What do you like/dislike about the system you use? How long do your night rides typically last.:confused: :confused:

Nite Rider Storm HID. Pricey but the brightness is amazing and it burns for 4+ hours. My friend uses it and can ride quite a bit faster than I can with my Performance lead acid cheapy.

Time to upgrade...

Night rider or Night Sun

4 hours is about right.
handlebar mount single light with different settings. When riding at night have a cel phone with you.

Also you should buy a cheepo helmet light. They help when turning sharp at low speeds. Like first gear slow.

I like night riding more than day time. Less jackass's on the trail. No hikers, No dogs, Just the HARDCORE!

Its a blast. You should try it.

I have a cheepie $120 light I think sold by Trek? 6v with a batt bag that velcros to the frame...

It lasts about 2 1/2 hrs but I usually climb in the dark so the rides last mabey 4hrs?

I always bring a back up flashlight to do repairs with....

Light & Motion. Killer company. Product is on par with Niterider, but much better to work with if there is any problems. They are coming over from the dive industry and are still trying really hard for the customer service. Kinda like Nightrider USED to do; unfortunately they got the majority of the market share a few years ago and their service went to shit. The Nightsun that someone recomended actually puts out more light, but Tobin (the owner) is too much of an ass to deal with and the wireing is kinda weak.
There are a bunch of small brands that ok, but sometimes getting parts in the future will be tough.
The HID lights, while bright, have bulb issues IMO. We sold 14 HID lights last year at our shop and had 6 bulbs blow, 1 riding MTN, 2 crashing, 1 turning it on in the shop, 1 I droped on the counter and 1 arrived blown. Really bad track record. I'd stick with a regular halogen, and NON digital system.
Simple On/Off switches are most reliable.

When I was a serious roadie, I would be training at nite on the street (trainers suck). I have a NightSun with the dual 10w 35w lamps. It was 200 bucks. Lasts about 4 hours on low, 45 minutes on high. I bought it about 6 years ago, so there are alot more options out there now. The battery fits in a bottle cage and wieghs like 3 pounds.
