I got to look at Kate today...Sunray had a ton of questions about what I wanted and stuff, this is one of many LT-1 swaps, but the first in a Cruiser.....

I am running a completely new set of gauges, so that part is pretty simple...a check engine light only, no blinker light and no high beam light...screw that!

I had them open the oil pan and replace the rod bearings and the timing chain for the hell of it...otherwise, the engine looked awesome inside.

I am going to go with an external fuel pump.

Here is a shot of the t case barely sticking out below the frame....that 1" body lift REALLY helped tuck it all up.

I am going to have a flat skidpan made from 1/4" plate..

Hey Grog, the high beam indicator is part of the state inspection in Texas.:bounce:

The motor looks sweet Nolen, but i think you will be disappointed with the trction of those new tires. You may want to step up to some more serious rubber...

Either go back to school and play on the monkey bars until you master landing on your FEET or.......
Lay off the  before dismounting your steed.

looking good!!! Nolen, you might need a laptop and a diagnostic link as trail tools but the fuel injection is NICE. If you poke around you can find a schematic to build a PC board to link the OBDII computer to the laptop and get all the troublecodes that way. Take the hi-tech with you on the trail. I built one for my 305 TPI in my 1976 FJ40 and found a shareware program to work with the circuit I built and I can look at all the info the computer sees while driving. It is pretty cool to see the computer tell me how fastI am going, what RPMS the engine is running at, what the AFR is etc... and it works to display codes as well. Make sure you get the VIN from the donor car(for ordering parts in the future-makes it real quick at the dealer) and order a Helm maunal for real troubleshooting help.

Nolen, Are you ditching the stock landcruiser cluster? or did it go away along time ago. I am trying to find an original cluster with the km's onit as well.

Brett that is rather cool. Check out this one, the software runs on your Palm top! No need to keep you laptop in the rig.

http://www.easediagnostics.com/

The programer that made my Memcal for my 383 TPI uses the pro-version of it. Us with ALDL cant' us it just yet, you need the OBDII port.

Brett this is a 1995 LT-1, so it is OBD-I. It has a lot less BS in the harness.

The guys at Sunray have a program they put my computer in that allows them to de-activate all the un-used links in the wiring harness such as the Vehicle Anti-Theft module and the self diming dome light :D

I am keeping this as simple as possible....already looking for a computer diagostic board...used to put in the toolbox.

No high beams? Hell, those beams are mounted about as high as possible! Looks a little top heavy...

Nolen... one concern I have always had with the LT1 intake is the rather small air cleaner and how that works on really dusty trails. Are you modifying that, just plan to change it real often or is it actually not a problem in an off-road rig??

I am modifying that....I am using an airbox out of an LT-1 equipped Buick Roadmaster. It has a very large airbox.

It will go on the drivers side of the engine.

Nolen,

Here (http://www.mindspring.com/%7Eamattei/aldlif.jpg) is the best circuit for the ALDL links I could find. I am using the same setup with a slightly different self power arrangement. I built one with parts from Radioshack for the most part with the exception of the MAX232 chip. Get it at www.digi-key.com P/N MAX232CPE-ND

As for preassembled cables and circuits try this page (http://www.mindspring.com/~amattei/akmelect.htm)

For shareware and $$$ diagnostic software try this page (http://www.mindspring.com/~amattei/dss.htm)

Hope that helps. After building the circuit you may have problems getting the data stream to register in the COM1 port. This (http://www.mindspring.com/~amattei/serial.doc) page has a good document for troubleshooting and also has a link for testing the circuit you built or purchased...

Good luck...

Butch, all you need is a nice scopemeter (aka Fluke 97) with a decent current probe attachment.... away you go! :)

If you hunt around these pages, you'll find some funny stories about troubleshooting. Check out the Current Probe Pages (http://www.currentprobe.com/currentprobe.html) Good stories on trouble shooting over over on this page (http://www.currentprobe.com/currentprobe1.html)
