Anybody done a flat belly at the frame and not have a clocked setup?

Thx.

Yes, It's doable. The only issues that you have to keep track of when making a flat bottom are, Making sure your passengers seat will still fit (it will be REAL close to the transfer case) and u-joint angle on the rear driveline at the transfer case.
Marlin Crawler makes a transmission that is 6" shorter than all of the others. It is called an L-52HD. It will help with the driveline problems.

Good chance you'll have rear driveline problems if you have duals and move the motor back 8".

If you don't have duals, then probably do-able.

Do you already have the adapter? Marlin's new, rotated MC07-R10 adapter is the same price now as the old adapter, and only $50 more than Trail-Gear's adapter...which, IIRC, is the cheapest adapter currently on the market.

I have the L52HD from MC so I'm good there. The donor truck had the standard duals adapter and not a clocked one. :( I will have to do some more measuring. Right now the motor is 8" back.

clock the whole drivetrain :) drop only one side the allowed 1"

That's not a bad idea!!!!

Actually, could you drop one side 2", and the other side 0"? You could still be following the spirit of the rules, as you'd only drop the entire motor 1" as measured from the center of the crank....and you wouldn't lower the COG any more or less than a motor lowered 1" level.

One additional hitch with the rotated adapter. It crams the lever into your driver seating area. I have done some lever bending to relieve the problem. Looking back I would not use the rotated adapter. I have no experience with the mco7 it may also have some drawbacks. I also think a flatbelly will create problems with your passenger seat regardless of rotated or not.
Another note. Consider making your driveshafts the same length. I got lucky. My center support shaft design ended up making my driveshafts less than 1/2 inch different in length. allowing me to carry one extra shaft on the trail and have two extras at competitions. The 12" slip shafts from TG can easily overcome this small difference in length.

doesn't the 83 trucks ave a L-52 in them from the factory?

This is something I've never thought of....

You could Twin stick rear case and just bend the shifters up.

If you raise the passenger side by 1" and lower the drivers by 1" then you just rotated the engine you didn't lower it at all.

The rear case is the twin stick. Marlin is supposed to have a twin stick for the rotated. i have not been able to get my hands on one.
I bent the mess out of them. I am not happy with the appearence now. I am trying to come up with a plan before I replace them. They look a bit hack to me, and the car looks real trick otherwise. Probably just me. Most people wont notice.

We've been building 10 degree twin-sticks for a while now. That would get the shifter out of your hip a bit as well!

cut them off and weld new sticks on.

I did not know that. I will call you in early 08. If your design makes them stick straight up I should be in much better shape.

That was my general plan until I saw the post from FROR.

I have a flat bottom with a doubler and my engine moved back 8". Totally doable. No driveline problems and I even have a seat slider.:smokin:
Check out my build in my sig for pics.

Thanks for the response! my angles look similar to that, now I know it will work :)

Nice xmember design BTW..
