I'm prepping my front axle for a sas on my 87' 4runner and I've noticed something weird. My front axle is an 85' toy axle and it has 3/8" spacers welded on both spring perches. I get that but on the right side the spacer was welded inset about 3/4" and the original perches were notched out to put the u-bolt in more. I read in the toy faQ that the measurement from perch to perch is 29" and that is @ what it measures. The center of perch to end of nuckle is different from side to side. I was going to cut of the spacer on the right side because my lift calls for it only on the left side and repair the factory perch but I want some input before i do. Why the F would someone do this?

Sounds like someone at some point swap this into something that was not a toyota and to compensate for a different bend in the frame they moved the perches. This was probably done to re-center the wheels on a frame that was not symmetrical. As far as fixing the problem, unfortunately, it would best to torch off the mounts and start over......the good news is you could change your pinion angle at this time and you don't have to re-weld a new perch on the bottom side, if you are using a u-bolt flip kit.

Cut that shit off the passenger side. It's not needed.
