7 gallon forklift tank. Run a dual set-up like jiMMy has. If you run out, oh well. Go get them filled and keep going. Better than a solid mount tank because it is easier to have a non-permenant tank filled if you run out on the trail.

The choice in LPG tanks will depend on your vehicle....

If you have a pickup truck or something with an enclosed cab, no problem at all.

If you have a Jeep or an FJ or something like that, where the tanks will have to be mounted in the cargo area, you would then have to run the vehicle without a top forever.

I have a YJ, and am still amassing parts and bits for mine, but I am going with a manifolded tank, measuring 26X32X13. Should fit nicely where the stock tank is now. That way, I am "legal" because I can pipe the overpressure valve away from the vehicle, and since LPG is heavier than air, it will not fill the passenger compartment.

If you run topless all the time, it is a non-issue. But, at least in Maine (yeah, yeah I know) you CANNOT run an LPG tank inside a vehicle compartment without sealing the tank in a separate housing (for cars, all you need to do is mount plastic along the rear deck and the seat back). So, I was going to build a metal cabinet that enclosed the tank on all but the bottom side, so it would vent naturally. Sealed seams, and a sealed door. But, I lucked out and found a tank that fits underneath, and that is after searching for well over a year now. And good luck finding a cheap tank. Check AZ. The state just yanked an LPG conversion program, and left a lot of installers high & dry. That is where mine is coming from, at a sixth the cost of new.

For size referance this a 110 litre tank on my Toy. Easy fitting on a pick-up. would rob space inside a vehicle though.

Have to run a fixed tank here in the UK for legal safety reasons. Plus using bottles is also illegal cos of the different in road fuel tax (loads) and non-road fuel tax (not much)

I think most of these guys have buggys that would negate the road tax issue.
and you can fill from a BBQ bottle if you run out with nothing more then a proper hose.
propane equivilent of a gas can
