Need more specifics on the area you plan to shoot in.

There is no shooting in Death Valley National Park / Monument,
per Federal law.

I'm sure one of the Bender's will chime in with more info...

It doesnt take a TinBender.

You cannot shoot in Death Valley National Park. There are very strict rules on posession of firearms within units of the NPS. They are for the most part not permitted to be possessed, unless passing through. This is especially true in DVNP.

From...
http://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/things2know.htm

Firearms and Weapons:
Firearms, including fireworks, traps, bows, BB guns, paint-ball guns, and slingshots are not allowed in Death Valley National Park. Do not bring them with you.

That leaves BLM land.
Contact the BLM Ridgecrest field office at (760) 384-5400. Ask them what their regulations are, and if any areas in the Panamint Valley are off limits during the time you plan to be there. Most of all, be sure you are shooting into an adequate backstop, and clean up your targets and shells before you leave.

Panamint Springs is well outside of the National Park. Basically you can go just about anywhere on the west side of the main road and blast, (of course obeying no shooting across roads, observing safety etiquette) The Park doesn't start until the base of the Panamints on the east side.

You can actually go into Ballarat, where they had handouts on shooting regs last time I was there...

Quite incorrect.
When the CDPA passed in 1994, Death Valley National Monument was expanded and converted into a National Park. DVNP now includes the north part of the Panamint Valley including the area surrounding Panamint Springs, and further west including Darwin Falls. It then turns north thru the middle of the Saline Valley.

Your post is misleading with repsect to my answering his question.

You are right, Panamint Springs is right on the boundary.

As i stated, you can shoot on the west side of the main road on BLM land

The yellow blob in the center of the map is the area on the west side of the main road.

You can target shoot, generally on BLM land, except for places like the Trona Pinnacles.

Stop by the town of Darwin for shooting. The locals are reclusive but may join in. Bring them out of their shell. It will be much more rewarding, like the old west. I believe Darwin was or was going to be the capital of California at one point.

If you want to shoot off your damn guns, go to a range. The desert is no
place for guns, nothing to stop the rounds for miles, except people.

Or you could shoot against a bank or hillside for safety. Its public land to be used for each in his own way. Do not shot at trash or bottles and clean up your targets. :smokin:

That’s the way it should be, , , in all those BLM areas where allowed. Bottom line here, Panamint Springs is surrounded on four sides by DVNP. Senator Fienstien and Boxer's bad not mine. To do it right one would have to go south on Panamint Valley Rd. between .5 and one mile. Enjoy :)

I really like the idea of people not shooting in the desert also. I'm sick of all of the garbage left behind by shooters. It really pisses me off when I'm in place like Panamint that is breath taking, and then you run across an area that is all shot up, or littered with shells, clays and rounds.

Hell, can you imagine how nice things would be in the desert if people didn't have to shot everything of interest? Can you imagine walking around and not running into a clay every 50 feet? Or a hillside turned blue from thousands of shotgun shells?

Just my 2 cents.

p.s. Going to Panamint this weekend. :flipoff2:

Shooting is okay but just about everyone leaves their shell casings and targets and SHOOTS AT GLASS!

Leave the effing glass at home.

No more glass in the desert!

Be safe, respect others & Pack out what you pack in for cripe sake.

thats some pretty funny shit. i do go to the range, and i also like going out to the desert to shoot. I reload so no brass left behind. just because you have seen other people leave a mess does not mean i will. have you ever been to panamint? its not very flat:shaking: be the way i did go shot all my damn guns :flipoff2:

Go shoot in some existing shotting shit hole, not Panamint.

We don't need Panamint looking like Calico. You know Calico, an existing desert area that had a lot of great history and open shooting. Now we have an area that is shot to shit and looks like hell. Thanks to the "responsible shooters"... :mad3: (And yes, I have shot weapons at Calico in the past, and yes I carried tons of junk out of there. No I do not shoot at Calico any more.)

when I was there for the Calico clean up with my kids, we picked up hundreds and hundreds of shotgun shells. They are everywhere. We also took out a bunch of clay. I just wish more people were responsible about packing their shit out. Hurleygo, thank you for packing out all of your trash. That is one of everyones concerns.

well none of you have ever been to the (classifide) shoot after it is all over.
other than tire track's and foot prints in the playa, no sign of us ever being there. (this year a good 75 people)
we as responsable shooters clean up after so as to keep the area looking like we were never there.:smokin:

please do not lump all shooters as just people who dump in there beds.:mad3:

do all 4 wheelers destroy the forest?? i think not.:homer:

as a 4wheeler and a shooter, i enjoy getting out were most will never go, and i want to keep it looking clean so future visitors can enjoy the area also.:mr-t:
