Ok... Heres the deal.
I was getting ready to build a badass rig on rockwells and this and that and the other thing. However my situation changed and I will be moving to Atlanta, Georgia and taking amuch better paying job, going to school and generally being way busier. Because of this I don't want to spend as much time or money on OHV related stuff... My new plan is to take my old ZJ that is sitting with no axles, no doors, no t-case and a blown tranny and fix it up with a dana 44hd front and 14 bolt rear, a internal cage, tube doors and coilovers will complete it (well... That and a tranny.t-case... I am thinking an AW4 and a dana 300). So my question is this: Is it reasonable to expect I could rent a garage somewhere down there where I could work on this shit?
Keep in mind there will be welding and stuff going on so I am not sure if anyone would rent a place like that (given liability and stuff)... Also I don't want to pay $1000 a month for a place... You think its reasonable to say I could rent some type of shop space (has to be fully enclosed... Does not have to be heated and cooled) fro $200 a month or so?
I will need to rent because I will be living in an apartment or condo... It does not have to be IN the city... Just hopefully not to much more than an hour away.
Thanks.

I dont know about Atlanta but about 30 miles out of Dallas there were some shops fro rent that I thought about that were 1500 sq ft with one garage door for 595.00 per month. That was the cheapest I found there. I dont thing you are going to be able to rent anything for 200 bucks a month, not in Atlanta. Hell even here in N.W.Arkansas you would not be able to find anything for 200 per month. I found a 1700 sp ft shop with 2 garage doors (one was missing) and they wanted 450.00 per month and they would not replace the door or anythign else for theat price. They said i was welcome to repalce it but what ever I did to the shop would be thiers when i moved out...

Anything that resembles a shop stall in the ATL metro area with enough storage space for the stuff you list would go for about $550-600/mo. You're better off either looking for a house to rent with a garage included, or finding another hobby.

Hmm... That sucks.

Then again maybe worthwhile... I am told a one bedroom apt in the area I would be living will be like $1100 a month so I shudder to think what a house would cost

Even if the shop is in a sort of shitty area?

The shittier the better. Those are the only places they're still affordable ($500/mo.). If you're expecting to find something in a nice residential area you're in for a rude awakening.

The BIG question is SPECIFICALLY WHERE in Atlanta are you talking about. Prices vary widely all over the metro area.

I have been in exactly your shoes. I rented commercial space with another guy and it was probably out of your range. I had 1/3 of about 1500 SF. The total deal was about $1200-1300/month plus utilities. This was in Suwanee (north side, just off 85).

Ultimately, this was my solution:

Real Estate prices vary widely in Atlanta, depends on where you want to live. When I look at what we were paying for our old house 1500SF spec-house, add on what I was paying for commercial space, and we came out about equal.

what he said. look outside metro ATL but make sure you have at least 3 ways to get to where you have to go. traffic blows.

i live on the NW side of town - not in the sticks but definitely not in the full blown metro area.

look for a house to rent with a shop. you can find them.
