: Chevy SAS Help
CMAX5.7 12-20-2007, 09:59 AM Shamefully, I'm a newb and need all the help i can get on doing a SAS on my 95' silverado 1/2t. I'm trying to generate a list of everything that will be required, I dont have the down time to start the job and not have something. Looking for dana 60 axels' F & R, and 1t springs. Going to get Sky's hanger and shackle kit. But not sure on shock brackets, steering box, steering arms, driveline, etc. Any help, info, or pics would be appreciated.
cracked_ironblock454 12-20-2007, 11:06 AM there is a wealth of info on SAS here, as far as kits that can be bought, and alot of guys fab up their own. Do some searching, its out there.
As for axles, I would suggest a high pinion 78-79 Ford 60 for your truck, with the driver side drop. You will have better luck running a GM 14 bolt full floater axle for the rear, as they are cheap, found in junk yards everywhere, stronger than a rear 60, and are much, much easier to build. I would stay away from 1 ton springs if you don't need them. Your stock springs you have now should be the 64 inchers, which are quite long, and with a shackle flip, are very flexy and have a good ride quality.
All one ton springs are going to give you is a stiff rough ride and reduced flex.
BigBlueToy 12-20-2007, 03:00 PM Are you swapping a 2wd or 4x4? If its 2wd try to find a divirced 205 ( hope fully from the same truck you got your axle from) It kinda shameful, but the easiest way to SAS a 2wd chevy is to find an old Ford with a divorced 205 and hi pinion 60.
Red Chevy 12-20-2007, 03:30 PM the only older fords that I have seen with a divorced 205 has the lp 44 front and the 30 spline 60 rear. But there could have been some with the hp 60
KnockOutFab 12-20-2007, 03:52 PM If you are going to swap the case, just use a chevy case and a chevy d60. Cheaper and easier.
solidk1500 12-20-2007, 04:42 PM how do you figure its easier and cheaper? cheaper yes...but having to fab up new crossmember, change transfer case linkage and shifter...thats easier???? if you say so...

This is probly true, but the first HP60 that I had came out of a truck that had a div case. IIRC it was a 203. This was a junkyards yard truck, so anything could be possible. Axle was an early 78, but never checked anyhing else on the truck. I had the rear at one time, but again never checked the dates.
Willie here is a link to my stuff.......

BigBlueToy 12-22-2007, 07:17 AM I am from canada, just 20 km from vermont. vehicules here have different specs, always have, always will.we dont have landcruisers here anymore, but we used to have diesel landcruisers BJs not FJs. all the car ads on tv have small print at the bottom of the screen that say american model shown or european model shown. I know where theres a 78 cab chassis with a divorced 205 and HP 60. it in a garages yard about 10 kms from here. I keep asking if it for sale and old Floyd says Well... I dont really use it anymore but Im not sure I want to get rid of it just yet. I figure eventually he will give in.
CMAX5.7 12-23-2007, 01:10 PM Another question I need an opinion on is my tranny. the stock 4l60e is basically a junk tranny, i was considering doing a engine swap and slapping a t350 behind it. The area in Oregon that I live requires DEQ but recently found that anything 95' and pre 95' doesn't scan OBDII, because of this I was going to go non electronic (motor and tranny) and do a stand alone injection system. My other option for trannys is to the 4l80e with a small shift kit. Does anyone have any opinions to offer as far as tranmissons go, or what their experience has shown to be the best option?

i dont know about most 4l80's but the one in my burb shifts hard and it is just stock. you might not need a shift kit, but then again it might be extra insurance to run one. i would vote for the t350 personally, just get all the electronic parts out of the way. but i also wouldnt run an auto either, but that is just a preference.

so what makes you believe that trans is junk??? :shaking: i have been beating the piss out of my trans my stepfather built and have not had an issue. i run a high low end torque 357 small block with 36's. i guess if your running 44's yeah it wont work but i dont think it can be considered junk.
