I sent a question to the seller

"Please tell me more about this engine. I have never heard of the4.3L V8 before. What makes it a "baby LT1"?"

:D I'll let you know what he says

It is true.

yes it is true and externally it looks like a lt-1 with same injection, etc. As far as i know the only vehicle they have used them in ,in recent years is the caprice, and caprice wagons. i believe it is the same cubic inch as early 265 v-8s (not sure on that one) but these engines do exist

Hmmmm...evidently it is. A quick search on google and it shows the the 4.3L V8 came in the early 90's Caprice.

Heres a blurb:

The L99 4.3L engine is basically an LT1 with a smaller bore and shorter stroke, there are some other minor differences, but just like the LT1 the first mods should be intake and exhaust.

camo, the best and easiest way i can think of is twin turbo.

i have thought about doing a twin turbo 4.3 V6 a lot now, and i think it could make 400hp pretty well.

i dont like turbos so i want to go with a weiand blower. only broblem is my 4.3 crate motor block can't handle that much power. so i am looking at alternitaves. i am pursuing a GM aluminum block from the GM performance catalog. block only weighs 75 lbs and can handle 500-600 hp. just wondering what block the baby lt1 uses and what kinda power it makes stock

Camo,
Have you considered the modular 4.6 Ford V8.
They are compact and superlight, make 350 HP with bolt on upgrades, and rich kids wrap the mustangs they come in, around poles on a regular basis, so they are becomming more and more affordable. Ford Racing even has a factory huffer for them that puts it easily into the 425hp range, with instant on power characteristics.
They must have decent trannies available to bolt up to them because the "way fast gear heads" are running them with autos and manuals, behind 800 plus HP.
Im keeping my eye out for one.

Well anyway they're about the same as the 4.3 V6, 200HP.

I did some research a few months ago for a guy in the Chevy forum after he dragged one home and thought he had an LT1.
From what I found the 4.3L L99 motor mostly came in Caprice taxis.

Camo, off-the-wall thought:

Could you hunt down one of the old 215 CI Pontiac v-8's???

They were all aluminum, factory rated for 215+ ponies. I believe they used the standard SBC style bolt pattern. Really lightwieght, pretty stout from what I know. Something to consider.

what about aluminum land rover V8 if you are looking for light weight? it was originally a GM engine.

The buick and rover are the same mtr just diff cubes! My buddy runs one in his 127" 4 seater rail with 35"s in back and 33"s up front and it is one hell of a ride! Oh and 315lbs running. What most guy do is run the 4.0 or 4.6 rover block and the buick heads w/2.02 & 1.94 chev valves due to the lower comp ratio.

you can buy a full blown rover race motor from builders in the UK and australia up to 5.2L and an easy 350hp. thats naturally aspirated, pump gas, all aluminum block and heads. they are really cool little motors, just get shitty gas mileage in stock form.

oh yeah, and there is a company in australia that sells a really neat supercharger system for it. 500+hp from a 350lb motor anyone? heheh.

Another thought would be some of the SBC flat 4's the circle track guys run.
all the basic parts are SBC, but the package is lighter and more compact.
