Hey guy's I'm looking for info on Superduty vs Non-Superduty Sterling 10.25 Tone ring pulse
width. Do they share the same tone ring and sensor? I'm building up a 2000 Superduty with a 78 HP D60 and looking for ways to convert the rear to 8 on 6.5. Thanks, Dave.

i have the ring from an 87 sterling 10.25, next time im at the shop i can measure it for you

just a thought, you could try swapping the earlier 10.25 hubs onto your superduty 10.5 axle to get the 8x6.5 pattern?

are you hookin up the abs:confused: the ring in the rear end is not for a vss, its only for abs. your vss should be on the end of your speedo cable.

correct me if im wrong, but everything i have ever read about the rear sensor has said its only abs, mine is not even hooked up

I obviously know nothing about Superduties yet so I'll have to look into where the VSS is located. That would be cool if it's on the tranny.

Supervert, what year is your truck?

mine is a 89, the newer trucks may be different, but my 89 with a c6 has no vss at all, now if it had a e4od or zf it would have a vss on the end of the speedo cable, for some wierd ass reason the c6's dont use one.

i did a bunch of web surfin a wile ago on the vss, and everything i could find on it states that the rear end is abs.

Cool, Thanks. I just got off the phone with a tranny guy and he said the 4R100 has a VSS at the tail shaft but he's not sure about the rear end. I guess I could unplug it and go drive it and find out what happens.:laughing:

i'm not too sure if it is an abs sensor or vss or not. I do know that if you use aftermarket gears, the ring gear is thicker than stock, replacing the 'tone ring' as you call it.

try swapping the hubs first

Can you just have the superduty hubs and rotors redrilled to 8 on 6.5? Might suck when you need new rotors but on my superduty I'm only on my second set with 190k. Is the hub pilot the same? Redrilling might not work if it's bigger and the old style wheels won't fit over.

Superduty steel wheels measure 4 15/16" while pre-Superduty measure 4 13/16" in the center bore. I've got a set of black rock crawlers that measure 5 1/8" soo if I had the hubs redrilled I could run the aftermarket steel wheels to clear the hub.

I'm not sure a 100% consensus has been reached, is the tone ring sensor in the rear housing for ABS or VSS?

BOTH in some cases.

what the sensor in the rear contrrols depends on the year and tranny. i KNOW the e4od uses the axle sensor. and i KNOW C6 don't use the axle sensor. not sure about newer trucks. try unplugging it and tell us what happens.
