: holster ??
Richard 12-24-2007, 01:23 AM trying to decide , straight drop or FBI ?? got it narrowed down to a Comp-Tac paddle , thought about the adjustable one , can't make up my mind:eek:
this one comp-tac (http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=53)
or this one comp-tac.com settable cant (http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=55)
Keith Strong 12-24-2007, 04:22 AM For $12.50 more you can have a 3 in 1 version of the same holster? Sounds like an easy decision to me.
TNToy 12-24-2007, 06:41 AM Easy decision? Yeah, except it's not.
I currently own 2 settable-cant's, three variations on the paddle, and a locking paddle... I'm a Comp-Tac whore.
If you're using this for shooting matches, get a straight drop. If it's for daily carry, get a paddle hoslter with a forward-body-incline (FBI cant). Unless your carry gun is the size of a Glock 26, the straight-drop holster causes the butt of the grip to print too much when you bend over. It also sucks to wear while sitting in a chair or car seat. That's been my experience with a Glock 19, which isn't a large firearm.
The locking paddle rides very high, which is great for wearing under short coats or shirts. With the paddle attachment it rides EXTREMELY high, but it also sticks out quite a bit. I had to pull it off the holster, heat it up, and pretty much completely reshape it to solve that problem. The belt attachment is good, but you'd be better off just buying a belt holster from them if that's what you want - the bolts/cant adjustment doohickey adds 1/4" of unnessecary width that the standard holsters don't have.
Oh, I own a C-TAC too. Did I mention I'm a Comp-Tac whore? It's damn good gear, and it doesn't break the bank. :)

my gun is a G23 , this will be a carry holster , so you are saying the fixed FBI is better for concealed carry than a straight drop ??
TheRedHorseman 12-24-2007, 09:32 AM FBI drop is better for me since it angles the grip(the hardest part to conceal) more along the body. It's really a personal preference thing, but that's what works for me. Your mileage may vary.
Richard 12-24-2007, 10:18 AM thanks , I thought about the adjustable one , but the fixed FBI won out , it looks to tuck allot closer to the body , now I need to save up for the straight drop:D
P.S this is quickly becoming an expensive hobby:eek: I'm almost $600.00 into a gun I haven't even had a chance to shoot:(
I got a holster with my PT745C I just got, and I wore it inside the waist las night over to my MIL's and my parents' house to see how it "feels". Wife and dad both commented that it wasn't noticable under my shirt - and by the end of the night I was pretty comfortable wearing it.
I may pick up a different style holster later and see if it's more comfortable.
Having noassatall disease apparently makes it easy to carry
TNToy 12-24-2007, 12:59 PM Yes it does, David. I carry 33 rounds of 9mm (Glock 19, spare 17-rounder) to church each sunday. Tuck the shirt in over a C-Tac, and it disappears. :)
Richard, what do you need the straight-drop holster for? The canted version should be your first purchase - excellent choice. :)

Richard,
What part of Oregon are you in? I am a member at the gun club in Canby. I'd be willing to meet you there so you could shoot. My schedule is kinda crazy and up in the air, but if you wanted we could work something out.
rocknbronco 12-24-2007, 03:45 PM I know my Uncle Mikes paddle holster has caused me one mag loss while I was hiking in the woods. I dont think I will get anouther one......:mad3:
TNToy 12-24-2007, 04:32 PM Uncle Mikes and Fobus bringeth the suck. One should not spend less than $50 on a holster, unless you make it yourself. The huge jump in quality is worth the extra $30.
Richard, is this going to be purely a concealed-carry holster?
The FBI Paddle is a great choice for carry under a jacket, sweater, or fairly baggy shirt. Under a tucked-in shirt or a somewhat-fitted T-shirt, I use an IWB (my CTAC) instead. It's a slower draw and less comfortable, but hidden much better.
Different tools, different applications.
Rat~Man 12-24-2007, 07:48 PM I really like my Galco miami for the hi power. Fits like a glove and having a xxl upper body and apparently a l lower means I could damn near conceal a 12 ga in there. No one notices the miami rig and best of all, its a soft, comfortable ride. I also have a paddle for the 1911, not so comfortable. I'm piecing a jackass miami rig together for the 1911 and I'm looking at ankle setups for the pa63.
Uncle Mikes and Fobus bringeth the suck.
Well, my Taurus came with an Uncle Mike's - so that's what I'm gonna carry until I find something I like better :p
