: Zf5?

Buddy asked me to research the ZF5 transmission. He has a YJ with a 5.0 litre mustang engine in it, d60 front 14b rear, currently T5 and D300. Wants to swap tranny, wants 5 spd (WTF for???), and can't afford an NV4500. Apparently he can get one of these ZF5 things cheap.

Good points? bad points? I see it has a 5.7~:1 first gear, that's good - I'm assuming it is very long though.... strength? Will it bolt to Dana 300??

Thanks for any info,

Chad

Ratio (gas)
1st: 5.72
2nd: 2.94
3rd: 1.61
4th: 1.0
5th: 0.76
Rev: 5.24

It's pretty strong, comprable to NV4500 and similar in dimensions.
It's has an aluminum case with integral bellhousing, so you'll have to make sure it has the small block pattern. (which aren't as common as the 460/diesel pattern)

The d300 won't bolt to it without an adapter (not sure it ones made). It will have a 31 spline output, and the same 6 hole round pattern as all the fullsize Ford t-cases.

Advance Adapters makes adapters for them that bolt up to a D20 tcase, so I would imagine that they would work for a D300. Call them.

Very doubtful that the integral bellhousing will fit a Jeep engine unless it has a Ford bolt pattern on its' back (of block).
Otherwise, a strong transmission, does fine in my 9-12,000 lb F350 crewcab expedition truck.

I would assume that the engine has the FORD pattern since it is a 5.0 MUSTANG engine(which happens to be a FORD)..YOU NEED to get your EYE's checked
