hey everybody

a friend of mine just picked up an 84 or 86 bronco. it had been sitting in a field for 3-4 years, and never started. he got it for 200 bucks. put a new battery in it, and it fired right up. little stumble here, and there, but we'll put new gas in it and clean the carb and see what happens.

its got a 9 inch rear, but ive never seen a front like this. it isn't a 44, or 60. it almost looks like an independent front, but its not. any clue as to what it is, and if its any good. its gonna be just a trail rig, with about 8-9 inches of lift, and he hasn't decided on tires yet. guess it comes down to how strong the front is

it is a independent front suspention. it is acually a dana 44. they where used in the 1980-1996 trucks and suvs. these front ends are pretty strong and flex alright for a independent. these are what all the desert racing trucks ant prerunners use. i wouldnt lift it any more than 6 inches tho. after that u start getting into geometry problems.. if i where u i would swap in a dana 44 straight axle

it's a dana 44 TTB. Look it up.

and 8-9" lift isn't happening... not on TTB at least...

sure it can - skyjacker makes a 9" for the ttb - get a 3" body lift and add some 44 " TSLs - change the gearing to 4.10s - install an posi - and wheel like mad

If he is gunna wheel it hard, I woulden't go with anything bigger then 35's. Like said above it is the d44 twin traction beam(TTB).

EDIT: Oh and if its a 302 and 35's I would proabably re-gear to 4.11 or something

ok. i think hes planning on keeping it around 36s anyways. anyway to easily tell if its a 351 or 302?. and were not really worried about road manners, so can we just put like 6 inch coils up there, and a 3 inch body and call it good without having to mess with other things. im a jeep guy, and havn't really looked at any fords. dont know much about em

for 6" you have to have drop down brackets, can't just cram some coils in it, buy a kit, rough country's isn't bad and it's cheap as hell. 6" is plenty for 36's and bigger. I'd go as deep as you can on the gears if it's just a beater truck. Screw the body lift, it's not needed, and is probably dangerous with an older truck like that with any rust.

btw I'm only being nice because it's christmas and I"m at my parents house bored as hell, but most all this stuff could be found with just a little bit of searching
