i am building a rock crawler out of a bronco II.
i have 2 questions. i am going to link this truck and do some serious crawling in it. dual cases to

i am wonerind wether i sould put it on 1 tons or 1/2 tons. i already have a set of half tons (dana 44 and 9inch) in my garage. the truck will have eather a mild 289 or mild 302 in it.

also wondering weather 38.5s will be plenty or wether i should step it up to 42s

if you dont know the answer to this yet, you should look around. everyone is going to tell you if your over 38s, you should be on one-tons...

Well for the tire size your chosing I would go with one tons.

One tons, since you're thinking 42's. I have 60's in mine and run 39.5's

ya thats what i was thinking but it is really temping seeing those everyday.. i guess i am going to have to fork out the extra cash and buy a dana 60 front.. i already have a line on a free 14 bolt rear so its not that bad.. ill just put my danna 44 from in my 1980 bronco urban mobber

i was going to go 44 up front, but after seeing all of the broken parts on here... id rather only swap my front axle one time...:D

svt.. i also have a f150 with a 4.9l on 35s tho... best motor ive ever had.. not much for horsepower but the torque was amazing.. i ran that thing with no coolant for hours (big leak) the exhuast manifold was glowing red but the engine had not problems and ran as good as new after. therre was so many times where the motor should have blown but just kept going. the 300 ford straight 6 is a champ in my book.. everybody would make fun of my for not having a 8 but i never popped my hood. maybe a couple times to fix the battery or change the oil

svt150j49
12-24-2007, 11:17 PM
yeah...they are good motors, but they have a couple draw backs.
they crack the heads a lot...
and they have no horsepower...

i ran my truck like that a lot when i got it, but it ended up cracking a head, and sinking a couple valves...:shaking:

strong and cheap 1 ton rear end - sterling 10.25 out of 1984-97 F250HD, Diesel F250, F350 trucks. 35 spline axleshafts 1.5'' diameter. They have just as good or better ground clearance than a dana 44. Don't waste your time with a 14 bolt just because every other :homer: has one in their chevy.

Dana 70's are just as good, disc brakes are easier on the d70. From my searching around they are a bit harder to find and pricier. I know guys say i got my dana 70 for a 24 pack of Bud but they probably gave felatio that they didn't mention.:flipoff2:

hey shitstick

there are better axles out there, you know, ones that you don't have to shave an inch off the bottom to get the same clearance as other 1 ton rearends. It bewilders me why anybody would want to run a 14 bolt rear end, let alone in a ford. Oh what, they have a nifty removeable pinion bearing? 30 spline axles? woopty fuckin do da. just because you and your boyfriends that you follow around in the ford section run a 14 bolt doesn't mean they are the shit.:flipoff2:

dana 70 or sterling is a better choice for a 1 ton rear axle, less work to make it more capable.

wow you guys have to be pretty stupid! Well A free 14 bolt is always good. I run a ford 10.25 in my bronco II and love it but there arent much after market parts for it so a free 14 bolt would be good. 10.25 also have a nasty habit of spinning the pumpkins and having there bolts on the ring come loose. Just because its a chevy part doesnt mean its crap. Now if you were talking about butting in a 10 bolt that would be stupid.

I agree. Free 14 bolt is great, I'd run it. Easy to setup, strong, and plenty of them out there.

This is a joke, right? Are you saying there's a company called Corporate that makes Chevy(GM) 10, 12 and 14-bolt axles? I thought "corporate" was a general term describing axles made by the General Motors Corporation.

It is, some people are just reatrded.

You are fucking retarded.

The "Corporate" 14 bolt (not the way your stupid ass spelled it) is actually a term used for GM's outsourced axles manufactured by American Axle Manufacturing (AAM). I thought we established you weren't supposed to post unless you had something intelligent to add.

Otherwise 14 bolt FFs are good axles, they hang a little low, are dirt cheap, and relatively easy to work on with strong as hell with 1.5" axle shafts.

I don't know why there is even a question regarding 14 bolts on here as all of the info about the 14 bolt is here:

Im reading your question, and IMO, if your not sure how you want to build your truck, its because you haven't wheeled it that long, or hard enough. If it were me, I'd run a nice set of 31's, with stock axles, and wheel the piss out of it. You don't need fullwidths, d60's, or 42" tires to go down a trail. Heck, 95% of the trails in this country you could do with a locked truck on 33's.

31s are for pussays. get some 35s, them stock axles will be fine. My yota holds up to 35s and lockers easy.
