: Excursion feedback
azlineman 12-26-2007, 10:26 AM I am looking at getting my wife out of her 4runner, and into an Excursion (her choice) We found a 2000 V10 4x4 w/63k, clean as hell. 3.73 gear (don't like that) for 12k. anyone have feedback on these vehicles, or just the V10? Thx.
mike09 12-26-2007, 10:37 AM Shitty motor with bad mpg, but if you need a bus...
95steel 12-26-2007, 11:09 AM We have an 03 with the v10 and 3.73's. We love it.
Now... there are fun facts with them, the electrical system sucks. Stereo buttons have to be pushed on extremely hard, buttons on the steering wheel suck. Rear power vent windows work when they feel like it.
If you get one, purchase good shocks, steering stabilizer, and the rear swaybar. This will help a lot.
We average 11.5-13 mpg. Mostly in town. Sucker pulls like a freight train through incliment weather.
We had a jeep commander before the excursion. Beleive it or not... the exy is much easier to drive (with the exception of tight parking lots).
I hope it lasts long enough to become my rig in a few years.
JackA 12-26-2007, 11:56 AM I have an F250 with the V10 and 3.73's. It is a great truck. I get 11-12 unloaded and about 9-10 towing. The 3.73's are fine if you stick with the stockish tire size.
caryt 12-26-2007, 01:03 PM Get a PS 14-18 mpg and won't blow out spark plugs! Many mods to improve the handling..V and modded B codes, rear SD sway bar and get correctly valved Bilsteins!
Performance mods are resonable..intake and exhaust, chip ect. I do alot of suspension and performance mods to fulsize Ford's from 95-08.
Only week link is the trans..can be fixed!
If I can help let me know!

1sicbronconut 12-26-2007, 03:56 PM The service manager at the Ford dealership I work for has a 7.3 Excursion and pulls down 20-23mpg with very mild mods. The V10 has been a decent motor, I had a 2001 V10 F250 with the 4.30 gears and got 16-17 mpg empty. For some reason I've seen the trucks with the steeper gears get better mpg.
DWitcher 12-26-2007, 06:25 PM I bought my Wife a 2000 Ex, V10, 4x4. The thing hauls ass but the brakes suck. It's got the 3.73's. I can get 15mpg on the freeway and she can get 7mpg in town:shaking:. Very comfortable and in an accident you'll be glad to know your packin' heat with 7800lbs. Buy the gas or the diesel. Either way buy one you'll be glad you did.
Ravak 12-26-2007, 06:56 PM My dad has a 99 F250 SD with the V10, and its a great engine and a great truck. The only weak link (very minor thing) is that the solenoids for the windows and locks on the passenger side went out this year and he bought the truck brand new. So, after 8 years, the only problem with it is the window and lock on the passenger side. Gets around 13 mpg, not sure what gearing.
My opinion, its been a great truck.
95steel 12-26-2007, 07:46 PM I have read the same thing with the different 4.30's vs 3.73's. Could be the 8,000 lb curb weight!
azlineman 12-26-2007, 08:11 PM Thx for all the feedback.... keep'em comming. If we get this thing, It will get 4" springs/bilsteins & some larger rubber quickly. Maybe a flowmaster too. I'm a little hesitant to get another big 4x4. Already have a 78 Ford crew and 72 Bronco, both loaded w/everything, and a dually dodge cummins 4x on 22.5's. You all know how it is.... once you get a new toy, there's so much cool stuff out there for it. Thx again!
sbrider89 12-26-2007, 08:21 PM i have a 2001 f250 SD v10 with 3.73s in it. i love the thing. pulls hard and tows great. towed a 12,000 lb triple axle trailer full of concrete through the local mountains no problem. it knew the weight was back there, but it wasnt complaining.
1sicbronconut are you really getting over 16mpg with ur v10.. shit im lucky if i get about 13 with it set on cruz control about 60mph. i get about 8 normaly cuz its to fun to stand on the gas
Family TJ 12-26-2007, 08:27 PM I got an 01 with the PSD. i love it and I get 17 loaded or unloaded. My ps door window is not working well either. I actually did rear end someone in a 96 Impala doing 45. Bent my bumper and broke the grill and turn signal. As for him his car was totaled. We pull the 3rd row out lat down a full size matress and sleep in it. Lay down the back seat and the kids sleep there.
1sicbronconut 12-26-2007, 10:51 PM Yup I got 16-17 mpg but I don't have the truck anymore, moved up to a dually for a larger camper I bought. Like I said the trrucks with the 4.30 gears seem to get better mpg might be the higher rpm's suit the motor better.
