a 460 will have somewhere around 350 hp. they tow great. a powerstroke would out tow it but probly blow a head gasket while doing so.

cons are mine loves gas and oil.

a pro for me is that the motor has been rebuilt by the previous owner.
tranny shifts great!
and i got the truck for 1500.00
i couldnt find a diesel close to that kinda price. My truck even has cruise control and AC. :D

anyways! if you got some cash to spend 5grand or more get a diesel!

Don't we all wish.

EFI 460,
'88-92: 245hp, 395lb-ft
'93-97: 260hp, 410lb-ft

With the right gearing they pull great. I have one that I tow with and it pulls nearly as good as my fathers '99 PSD, however does not get as good of mileage while doing so. About 9mpg towing 14,000lbs. I do get about 14mpg empty if I drive it nicely.

x2!!

we've towed crazy loads with my 91 f350 crew 4x4 460...and to be honest if it wasnt for the 11mpg empty I would still have it..my diesel doesnt tow as well..but its easier to fill up.....

First off, the guy who said they have 350hp. Yeah fawking right..... Dont post bull shit answers.:shaking:

I have one sitting outside my window with a 460. Its been worked over and tows like a beat donkey. It will tow anything I have ever tried to tow. Plenty of power, I think stock was around 230 or 245 hp and around 400ft lbs. The gas mileage is the shitty part. It likes gas. Lots of gas.......:(

Diesels get better mileage and I think they tow at least as good, maybe better. I am saving parts to swap to a psd and 4500 in mine.
More for mileage and longevity than power.

Clearly if he's stating it has 350 hp in factory form, he is off his rocker. At the same time, if someone has 'worked over' a 460, something on the order of 400 hp and more is possible and you'd still have a towable powerplant.

Con gas mileage
Pro it's a great tow vehicle.

I had an '86 carbed F-350 and it was an utter dog. The EFI ones are a little better but are still dogs in comparison to modern diesels. My friend has a 93, and it never tops 10 mpg. My dad's '03 F-150 5.4L tows the same trailer faster than the old 86 ever did - while still getting double digit fuel economy.

As for the genius who claimed 350 HP from a dog 460 and blown PSD head gaskets...what the hell are you talking about? From now on, only post when you have something intelligent to add.

my old 460 was built a little and pulled anything i ever asked of it... headers, cam and intake with a 600 CFM holley carb... 360 HP and 500 FT/lbs estimated power, empty mileage was about 11, towing anywhere from 8 to 4 depending on how heavy...

The main con is that it will suck gas like a crack whore sucking cawk on the corner. Other than that, it'll rock.

Yeah, mine is worked over. I am pushing around 370hp and around 580 ftlbs. Its tows like a beat donkey. I was saying the stock trucks came around 240 and 400. I am 98% sure those are close to the stock numbers because mine was right in that ball park when I got it. I had plenty of power then and more then I need now. It likes gas though... Even when i am nice to it, It likes gas... Lots of gas.

My 460 rig is the trailered rig for a reason.... 11-12 mpg empty blows, and sub 10 towing reallys hurts... Good power, and will pull great, but, SUCK back the gas like there's no tomorrow.
