Haven't seen much traffic on this board from Zukimelt goers.....

Who's making the trip over there this year? Expedia says its a 24 hour drive from my house, wondering if anyone from further West than Utah is going to brave the long trip???

Now THAT's a road trip! Are you driving a Suzuki? Might wanna add a few hours to that. ;)

Last year, some folks drove a Samurai down from Canada, over 30 hours for them if I remember correctly.

It takes me ~7hrs, running 75 MPH with my Zuk.....

......on a trailer behind my F-150. :)

Actually, I'll be in the X90. I'm towing a trailer full of giveaway goodies, but I should still be able to make decent time. Juts hope my kid doesn't beat me up with "are we there yets" for 1,654 miles of driving.

Ah, the X90. I saw that one on your website, cool rig. I'm proud to see you building that one up, that vehicle has been kinda overlooked. I know I've probably seen 100 X90's in the past, but never gave them a second look.

If its anything like other Zuk events we've been to, there's always an extra seat to be had. Zuk folk is good folk too. If you wanna go, just do it and you'll surely find someone who'd love to have a passenger along.

I'm plannin on it. Got the gooseneck hitch installed Friday, now if I can just find a trailer.. :)

I'll be taking Jayson with me, his wife has a family renunion that weekend in AZ. Her folks were not happy when she told them she was going wheelin' instead.... :p :D

Plan to leave EARLY thur morning. It's right at 12 hour drive from Claremore OK. Hit the road about daylight, should be rolling in just before dark. Depending out how my GMC likes pulling a 12K lb trailer with two TALL zooks... :)

NC ZUK GUY, I don't if I'll have an open seat yet. We've got a friend that wants to ride, but he's notourious for backing out at the last minute. Probably won't know for sure 'till Thur morning. :rasta:

I'll probably go next year, this year I don't have the time or the cash to make it down there. Not to mention my zuk is uninspected and without anything resembling a lift at the current time...

DougO
06-30-2002, 08:23 PM
Well, if its like last year, the park is open like normal, we just have our event, and only Suzuki based vehicles can pay our rate. there's plenty of room there .. a bunch of times I was just playing around alone in the dunes and hadnt saw anything else for stretches of time, and that was with 200 Zuks last years, plus the Dirtbikes, 4 wheelers and anything else

I am interested in going to the Zukimelt, but heard they are kind of strict on how much Samurai you have left in your vehicle. My Sammy still uses the frame and body, but the rest has been "slightly modified" : rockwells, 44" tires, 5.7 liter, 400 turbo, 205. Just wondering if I will be welcome. I talked to some of the guys from Attica at the EROCC contest in Jellico and they said to just come on up.

NC Zuk,
I'll be there too. Look for a desert cami zuke on MTR's.

350Samurai,

Suzuki Samurai, SJ-series, LJ-series, Sidekick, X-90, XL-7, Grand Vitara
Geo/Chevrolet Tracker
Custom-built rigs that utilize Suzuki components

That came off of the Izook.com site...So if you still have any zuk components you seem to be welcome to me. I'd sure like to see a Zuk built that big...

Last year there was a Frame with a Mercedes diesel engine, auto tranny, dont know what kinda axles, coil springs, with a cage .. Oh it had a Suzuki sticker on the back of the frame ... it was there.

There will be the "purists" who say it isnt a samurai anymore, but oh well, to each his own, its as much samurai as you want it to be, and seeing as how it still has the body :cool2:

I just came back from Moab to the Ann Arbor Mi. area, it took me a bit over 24 hours TOWING the Zukie behind my Xploder. I'd give yourself at least 30 hours, especially with your Kid, your stop time will be increased with a passenger along, I was alone.

As far as open Passenger seats for the Event, Mine is currently open, but I will not be going on the extreme trails, I dont have my full cage in, or a winch as of yet...Lack of $$$.

Looking forward to being there :D

peace :D

Oh Man - I don't think I'm gonna make it THIS year. The Gnewt still needs more money poured into her to be ready to hit it...

But maybe I'll just go anyway....
Nope - can't go - helping some friends/putting on a fund-raiser that weekend. Oh well, next year EJS & the Melt...

I'll be there again this year... I guess i'm considered one of the original "dirty dozen" which means it'll be the 4th year for me. I won't have a zuk with me this year though, as my project isn't finished. I will be running around with the grand poobah, TD (Troy Graham) or one of his other minions.

Dude, i don't know who told you that, but i can assure you they were talking out their ASS! Bring it!:D Getting to see how different and radical all the rigs are is one of the coolest things about the z-melt.

I am in the market for a piece of Steel diamond treadplate - I don't need a whole sheet, only a leftover scrap piece at least
6" x 36" or so. If any of you fabricators are driving to the 'Melt and would be willing to part with a piece, shoot me a pm or email!

Thanks -

Im not sure I no the entrance is completly new then it runs into something that was already there before but even that has changed since April I was in one spot that needed just body weight on the strap to keep from going over and it hasnt rianed in awhile down there so the Rocks are all coated with dirt and a silty dust so ya slip around alot Ive runn it a couple times so Ive got a pretty good idea of the line but ist rough
